BRADFORD, PENNSYLVANIA (BNO NEWS) -- Actor Wesley Snipes on Thursday arrived to a Bradford, Pennsylvania prison in order to serve his three-year-sentence for tax evasion.

Snipes surrendered himself to the minimum security Federal Prison Camp at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean, in Bradford. In 2008, he was found guilty of on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file federal income tax returns.

The Blade trilogy actor was sentenced to three years in prison and a District Judge denied a motion regarding a new trial that Snipes' lawyers requested after claiming that the actor's trial was damaged after prosecutors hid key information of a witness.

Snipes claimed that the government failed to disclose that his former accountant Kenneth Starr was under investigation for engaging in criminal activities of conspiring to evade income taxes with another client.

Starr gave a key testimony during Snipes' trial which was fundamental for the jury finding the actor guilty. The accountant pleaded guilty to one count each of wire fraud, investment fraud, and money laundering last month. Starr faces 45 years in prison for allegedly stealing between $20 to $50 million from his clients.

In addition, Snipes' lawyers also argued that there was jury misconduct during trial and they have evidence to prove it. The lawyers added that emails prove that three jurors told the rest that the actor was guilty before they even heard the first piece of evidence.

Snipes continuously claimed his innocence and in repeated occasions said that he will not be imprisoned. He was free on bond during the appeal process but after several negatives he finally surrendered to authorities.

You would think with the accountant on the stand the defense attorneys would bring up his questionable business dealings in the court room and not expect the opposition team to give them or the court bad character references for their own witness. Its a new adventure, look at the interesting people he can associate with.

Jail-time for not being fully cooperative in the governments theft of your assets...is ironic.

It is the USA. nothing ironic with it.

We could compare it with the sentence you get for other crimes in the USA or for crimes committed by Americans abroad but that will be probably not okay in the eyes of the off topic police.

And meanwhile 3 years looks pretty harsh and comparing it with the sentence you get for other crimes in the USA is off topic - it will be same in other countries. It's nothing typical for the USA, but typical what you can expect in return for not being fully cooperative in the governments theft of your assets in many other countries too.

Yes, my post didn't even mention US, it said 'the government', since crimes against the states wish is always seen as a worse crime than others. No-matter the nation.
