LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- R&B singer Teena Marie passed away in her sleep on Sunday morning, her publicist said. She was 54.

Marie, from Santa Monica, California, who was nominated for a Grammy on four occasions, was found dead at her Los Angeles apartment on Sunday. The cause of her sudden death was not immediately known, but reports indicate she suffered a seizure in November.

Throughout Marie's career, she released a total of 13 studio albums after gaining musical fame in the late 1970s and 80s. She is probably best known for her 1984 hit 'Lovergirl' and her musical collaboration with Rick James.

Other of her hits include 'Portuguese Love', 'Ooo La La La,' and 'I'm a Sucker for Your Love,' which was Marie's first top ten hit.
