Driving License Help Please!

I live in kathu and have my business in Patong so i cross the kathu police checkpoint on a daily basis.

Sometimes the check point is manned but normally only for scooters and cars with license plates from outside Phuket.

In all those years i'm only stopped once but nothing asked.

I don't drive much around in Chalong so i don't have much experience with that area.

But if you say that you stopped countless times i think it is time for you to ask yourself why they stop you so many times. :whistling:

I must confess I feel similar, I drive from Patong to Karoen every second day and from Patong over to Kathu almost daily and I've never been stopped once in four years, and my SUV does not have Phuket plates!

Because there are so many police checks points on the routes that I drive. It's just routine checks, and not targeted.

agreed, going from Kata, there are routine check points in both directions. Even with my HighwayPolice stickers in windshield and rearwindow, it happens they pull me over, but only to wave me on when recognice my face or see my Police ID

Would be interesting to understand what the common denominator is in all of this, vehicle type, driving style, good looks, or being a TV Mod, dunno. :)

Just bad luck that a police check is operating. Chang mai, do you never see these check points, or do they never stop you at a check point ??

I see them quite often but I never get stopped, really, typically I'll slow down and when the officer sees I'm a farang (and quite handsome) I get waved through, why sometimes they even salute me, at least I think that's what those two fingers mean!

I've been driving in Phuket daily for nearly six years and only been stopped once. And that was on the very first day of having my first car. (I've since been through many checkpoints but they have never stopped me since that first day.)

They attempted to breathalyse me. I say attempted because they hadn't a clue how to work the damned thing. I think they used to work in HomePro: About five of them fussing about and having me blow into it about ten times.

They eventually gave up and sent me on my way!

As someone else said, it would be interesting to know why some people are stopped and others not.

I would just like to mention that I had my first 'police stop' of this 2011 year. About 11.00 on the way out of Karon towards Patong. Police were doing light trade with the mobikes, so they were stopping all the cars in front of me. I just held my licence up to the window and they waved me through. Fortunately they were gone on my way back to Kata.

I made that same trip today and came back from the gym around noon, it was a wonderfully uneventful ride! I do believe though in all seriousness, your car does you no favours when it comes to being stopped by the police - the trouble is that you're right there and they're peering down at you, they don't even have to ask you to roll down your window, it's almost impolite not to ask you for something because it's so easy.

And how do you explain the pick-up and 2 saloon cars in front of me having their licences/tax checked ??? ...
