I have a 110v/60 cycle slide projector that I brought from the USA. Where can I find a transformer and what size should I look for. I have already checked at HomePro and several small electrical shops but no have. Any suggestions?

On the rating plate of your projector will be a figure for Watts or Amps, to get Watts from Amps (at 110V) multiply Amps by 110.

Get a transformer at least 25% bigger than the figure you come up with.

I've not seen transformers in HomePro, but pretty much any mom-and-pop electrical emporium should be able to supply.

Several years ago (7) I was in the same situation and the only place I found to obtain a 220v / 110v Step Down Transformer rated with high enough Watts to safely operate my projector was ordering one from an Electric Shop which cost me about 9,000 baht... The blub in the projector was a 1,800 Watt Holigen, so ended up with a 2500 Watt Transformer,,,... It took me several years to finally get around to obtaining a Slide Scanner from the US and to Scan all of my (4,800) 35 milimeter Slides...

Now I have an expensive Step Down Transformer and a 35mm Slide Scanner, both of which sit collecting dust... I would love to help you out, but both units as myself live up in Kalasin / Isaan... O.K., I do use the Transformer this time of year to power the small Space Heater which a freind sent me from the US,,, but the Scanner is available....

I have bought a simple transformer from HomePro in the past, maybe they are just out of stock.

I also have 2 nicer units that I use constantly bought from Thai Transformers, their website seems a bit broken at the moment but you can get their email from it and try contacting them. I dealt with a Khun Chanatip who spoke good English and was kind enough to deliver the units to my house in Bangkok at no extra charge.

I think I'm going to forget about the transformer and projector. For Christmas my son brought me a slide scanner from the US and rather then view the slides on the projector I will view them as I scan them. I have about 3500 slides taken between 1967 and early "80's from when I worked here in Thailand and Vietnam as well as from other countries in SE Asia and the Middle East. I'm not going to scan every slide as many are quite similar. I've scanned about 500 so far and hope to finish by Sunday. Thanks for the offer of the scanner. Mine will probably be gathering dust too when I complete the job. I just read where they are going to stop making Ektacrome (sic) film.
