BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) -- Two American service members were killed in central Iraq on Sunday evening, the U.S. military confirmed on Monday.

A statement from U.S. Forces - Iraq said the American service members were killed in central Iraq while in support of Operation New Dawn. No other details were immediately released. "The names of the deceased and details of the incident are being withheld pending notification of next of kin," the statement added.

The fatalities raise the total number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq so far this year to 2. A total of 60 U.S. service members were killed in Iraq last year, most of whom died as the result of non-hostile incidents.

The last U.S. service member to be killed in Iraq was 24-year-old Pfc. David D. Finch of Bath Springs, Tennessee. He was killed when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire.
