Set Up A New True Internet Line

So what I expect is that, if I move to 6MB True package, I will get 6M*1024k/8=768kb/s in theory, and actual around 700kb/s at least , is that right?

Not quite sure what you are trying to calculate here. Internet packages are advertised/sold in Mb (as in mega bits) not at MB (as in mega bytes). 8 bits equal 1 byte. A 6Mb/s package is actually 6,144,000 bits/second or 6.144Mb. And these speeds are the max "in-country/in-Thailand" speed; not what you will get to international web sites since Thai ISPs generally don't buy enough international bandwidth.

Now this advertised speed is generally not the max data/real world speed you will get due to ADSL "overhead/control" bits needed to manage the flow of data back and forth. The ADSL "overhead" is approx 10-15%; therefore, if you reduce 6.144Mb by say 12.5% you get a max "Internet Protocol (IP)" speed of 5.376Mb which is actual "data" flow....data that you are trying to flow like in a file download. Speed test results are usually shown in IP speed. But some ISPs seen to do some kind of magic that offset the ADSL overhead bits, like maybe by providing a slight higher speed DSLAM connection or somehow fooling the speed test program. For my TOT 6Mb internet package (fastest available to my moobaan) for in-country speed tests I get a very consistent 5.25Mb IP speed, and for tests to international web sites I get in the 1 to 2Mb range...sometimes on a good day a little higher.

Now if you are using a separate or integrated download manager with your browser for file downloads you can get download speeds approaching your max IP speed (or at least I do)...keep in mind that download managers break the file up in segments/use multiple threads/use other magic that I don't fully understand which increases file download speed. On my TOT package I get a consistent 3 to 4Mb speed in file downloads when using a download manager and significantly slower if I don't use a download manager. Torrents programs may do the same thing...I don't know...I'm not into torrents (yet).

This typical of my 8mb true connection downloading from Rapidshare and other server ( I dont have a screen shot of the 1.4mb/s speeds).

ur speed looks good to me

"How many month they will ask me to sign for the first time use?"

I've had True service for some time. I was never asked to keep the service for any specified period of time. It has always been month-to-month.

When I had problems with the service, they went to my condo - either the same day or the day after - and, even though the problem was with my router, they resolved the problem for free. As with anything else in Thailand, your mileage may vary.

As far as True's service policy for home internet is concerned...

--if the problem is wiring or equipment related outside your home/building, they'll fix it or try to fix it for free.

--if the problem is wiring related inside your home/building, they'll try to fix it, but may well levy a service charge for coming out.

--of course, if the modem or other equipment True has provided the customer as part of True service fails somehow, they'll replace it free of charge.

That's been my experience with them over 4 years of having their home DSL internet service in BKK.
