I left at 0615 and got back to Patong at 1830. Their website describes it as fun.... yes...well probably if you like pulling your own teeth out for a hobby!! I voewed never to do it again by road and the next time I did the Air Asia to KL... out at breakfast time, back in time for lunch. Far superior. Generally more expensive but if you know that you are going to have to do a series of border/visa runs then booking in advance is normally cheaper. There seem to be only two - Eves and PhuketVisa I am in North Phuket (Thalang) and haven't been to Rawai so I have no idea where the Freedom Bar is (for Eves) The PhuketVisa people have a website but as one poster has said - he would rather pull teeth out - its hardly inspiring I will check out Air Asia website and see what a KL flight will cost. If using this option are we required to enter Malay immigration (ie. leave the airport, so to speak) or can you get off the plane and walk to transit area for the return ? As visa on arrival are free for Malaysia - I would have though it a safe bet to 'enter' Malaysia just to prove to the Thai authorities you have physically been out to another country (got an entry stamp), Grab a coffee and a burger and re-check in again. You have to fill in an arrival/departure card for Malaysia then you can head to Old Town Coffee or Maccers and be back in Phuket for dinner and a glass of whatever you bought in Duty Free Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ping Posted January 12, 2011 Share Posted January 12, 2011 Another Ranong service is Bangkok Legal Services (BLS). Not a bad mob. Google for their site (gives details of pickup points as well). You can do the basic run or the VIP run to the casino, which is only B300 more and worth the extra (cB1800). If you are lucky, you'll get a near empty VIP mini bus on the dearer run and can stretch out. If you haven't done the mini bus run before, it is worth doing one time (only!) just for the experience. Internet booking for the Air Asia KL run should be around B4500 (but nearly double that through a tour desk, unless you know someone). You need a Thai bank account for Internet bookings with Air Asia. I agree with the others that the KL run is a far better way to go, but as I said, for the experience, the Ranong run is arguably worth doing one time only. Its always best to book well in advance with Air Asia, something i will do for the next run! I have been recommended a nice trip to Lankawi Island which would serve the purpose for my Thailand exit/entry and is apparently quite spectacular and stress-free. Heading down to Satun by bus or minivan and accross to the Island on an hours boat. A night in a hotel and come back the next day. It all sounds very nice and am wondering why people don't do this option instead of 'slumming it' (apparently) over to Burma (Rannong). Any comments ?
