Simple Latch For A Screen Door

Featured Replies

I have a screen door but I would like a simple latch just so someone can not come in so easily.. not that they would but just in case.

I am female living alone and don't want to be so paranoid , but want to be safe.

Don't want to close the door every time I leave the living room etc.........I have one of those sound alarms but if I put it on I forget.. good for night but not just when I am home..

Ok the door open OUT so what can I put?

thanks I have LEARNED SO MUCH FROM this forum..even changed my own hotwater shower box alone.. (pressure still sucks but that another post)

A person can indeed learn a lot. Regarding your shower pressure, have you got a chance yet to check your water pressure with a gauge as recommended in below post/topic.

Is that a sliding door? If so, and you want to keep people from using it, one way is to get a piece of wood (like a dowel or whatever) same size as the opening and just put it between the frame and the door when closed. If you just want a latch, check out HomePro or like that. There's lot's of options and probably don't need much more than a drill and a screw driver to install.

Is that a sliding door?

Door opens out, thus, cannot be sliding.

Use a couple of short barrel bolts, but have to be installed onto the thin frame by rivets. The screen installer can do it.

Well that seems like a lot of organising thur requiring a translator..

I guess if they can rivet the bolt then that is the only solution.

A simple Thai style solution would be:

Take a small piece of wood, maybe 4-5 inches long by 1 inch wide by 1/2 inch thick.

Put a hole in the middle,

screw it semi tight into the frame around the door about latch high, maybe an inch or so from the edge of the door,

Turn it vertical to open the door, sideways it will block the door from opening.

use two washers between the stick and the wall to make it turn easily.

actual size, color, etc is up to you

My bad, the door opens OUT, this won't work

Hook and eye?
