Nepal to enter a new process in Prime Minister elections

2011-01-13 08:22:45 GMT+7 (ICT)

KATHMANDU (BNO NEWS) - Nepal's senior leaders on Wednesday committed to enter a new process after the withdrawal of the sole candidate for the prime ministerial elections, local media reported.

Nepali Congress withdrew the candidature of its parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel after the Communist Party of Nepal called to vote against the candidate in the seventeenth round, scheduled for Wednesday. After 16 rounds of voting, no candidate has been able to obtain the necessary 301 votes in the house of 601.

The leaders of Nepal's three major parties reiterated that the only alternative was to collaborate among the parties and draft the new constitution to conclude the peace process.

The election process began last year on July 21 when Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal resigned.
