Bringing A Laptop To Thailand.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I intend to bring in my laptop into Thailand by crossing over the Malaysian-Thai border.

Is there any procedure. Do I have to declare ?

And if I fly by air, is there the same procedure.

Have I to declare my laptop before going in and out of Thailand.

Your kind advice is much appreciated.

Thanking you in advance.

no, you do not have to declare

Dear Forkinhades,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Much appreciated.

Nope done it loads of times. Sometimes with 2. Never had a problem either flying or crossing via a land border point. :D

There used to be a customs declaration form which everyone had to fill out prior to arrival and it did mention specific higher value items like laptops but they no longer us this anymore. I can't remember when they stopped doing it but it was a good few years back.

As long as it isnt brand new new and boxed with all the paperwork etc there shouldnt be an issue, most people when buying new laptops in neighbouring countries just throw away the packaging put it in a laptop bag and away you go.

If its an exisiting machine with personal stuff on it and clearly not new, you would be the same as probaly 100's of other travellers and of no interest to customs.

The form is no longer used but the requirement is still there in relation to goods which may require the imposition of a import tax.

It is also worth remembering that technically there is another requirement in relation to declaration, that is in the sense of any unlawful images that one may posses upon entry. However, the chances of an official checking a laptop for such is virtually nil at either an air of land entry point. Which is not to say one should not be prudent.
