Hi all,

My girlfriend has a car on finance in Thailand and she is due to make the final payment in March. However she is in the UK with me at the moment so she has left the money with her mother to pay the fiinal payment and she tells me that this means that the car will go into her mothers name after it is transfered from the finance company to her. When she returns to Thailand can her mother transfer the car into my girlfriends name without cost ? similar to the UK when you just fill out the new keepers details and send it to the DVLA?

Any help would be great

Regards

Hi buddy

Yes no problem but maybe a 200 baht cost or so nothing to worry about really and you would get a better reply on the " motor forum " with anymore motor vehicle questions.:jap:

Yes there is a cost, which is about 0.5% (roughly, I can't remember exactly) of the value (DLT have a look up table, on made & year), each and every time a transfer is made.

If your GF sign the loan agreement with the bank, the car will only be release to her, and NOT the mother. Your GF don't need to be in Thailand, but she have to send sign the transfer doc, plus sign the proxy form, and also sign an extra set of copy of ID card.

The bank will prepare the formS for your mother (form should be your GF name), she send to your GF, she sign, send it back to your mother, your mother bring it to the bank, and they will arranged for the transfer to your GF name.

PS. No hurry to trander the ownership from bank to your GF, unless you are going to re-finance. Just wait until she returns.

Do not allow it to go into the mother's name, it can go into your wife's name VERY easy - just need to complete a "proxy form" to allow someone else to do the paperwork and take to the land transport office on your wife's behalf.

It is not "easier" to do a two step process via the mother and exposes you to greater risk regardless of issues of trust. Each change of ownership is detailed in the 'Blue Book', so it means one less owner if it is transferred for lease company to your wife, each transfer or name change costs about 5-8,000 Baht, depends on car.

They will need a copy of her ID card. Best thing to do is get wife to talk directly with the dealer.
