I am a Canadian citizen who is married to a Nigerian Citizen that has her Canadian Permanent Residence. She has been living in Canada since 1999.

We recently decided to take a vacation in SE ASIA for 4 months. Tickets have already been purchased to arrive and depart from BKK.

She has just applied for a tourist Visa at the Thai Embassy in Ottawa, Canada and we were told that it would take 2 weeks for processing for her Visa but only 2 days for me. The reason for the delay was that they have to get authority from BKK before issuing a visa to a Nigerian with Canadian PR. They also notified us that she may be granted only 30days instead of the usual 60days but that it will be up to the discretion of the immigration officer when we arrive.

I had originally planned to stay in Thailand for the first 30 days and the last 30 days of the trip with the middle two months spent in Cambodia and Vietnam. However, the Thai embassy worker here in Canada told us that she thinks only the Thai embassy in Canada would recognize her Canadian Permanent Residence.

Do you think the Thai embassy in PP will grant a Nigerian Citizen a tourist Visa? Will they take into account that she is a Canadian Permanent Resident and already has a Thai visa in her passport? (the one issued here in Canada)

I don't mind offering the Thai embassy worker 200-300$ USD for the Visa if that's what it takes since it will cost me at least that much to change our flight to depart from PP or Ho Chi Mihn.

I would not even mind if the visa was only valid for a 7 or 15 day stay in Thailand just so that we don't have to change the flight.

If we are rejected in PP, would it be worth a try to offer money to someone at one of the land boarder crossings for a 15 day stamp?

What do you think? is there any danger in offering a bribe? do you think it will help in this situation?

I am also considered taking a cheap flight from PP to BKK the night before our departing flight (early morning) and just staying in the Airport till our flight leaves but I am unsure if they will even let us board a flight without a visa.

Please help!!

Thanks!!

Do not believe any attempt to bribe would be successful as such would be obvious to immigration/police on entry and issue of tourist visa is currently very tightly controlled AFAIK. Would highly advise you re-plan your travel to avoid any chance of landing in jail rather than having a pleasant journey.

I just discovered that so long as our flight continues within 12 hours from time of arrival we can stay at the airport in the "secure" area. So I guess we will just catch the latest flight from PP to BKK the night before our departure from BKK at 7:30AM since no flights appear to come in before that. Can anyone verify that we can do this?

I just give you my thinking , moderator can give you the correct answers as he see your question.,

you can almost be sure that they NOT take in consideration the Canadian residence ,as for immigration she is only holder Nigerian passport , so they follow the restrictions for that nationality .

Why not just waiting until you see witch visa they give ? Should make things more clear for you instead of assuming possibility's witch could make your holiday a nightmare...;

Full service airlines would allow transit area stay but discount point to point carriers would require immigration clearance so airline needs to be consulted.
