Hi - my plan is to move to Bangkok, find a job (I'm guessing this will take about three months), stay in Bangkok for about a year and a half working, and then leave for good.

I'm almost certain I will not get a job offer until I can show up and interview in person in Bangkok.

So what type of visa should I get that will allow me to obtain a work permit?

You do not appear to be qualified for anything but a tourist visa for entry. Once/if employment found you would have to change to a non immigrant B visa to obtain a work permit.
