PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least one killed and 13 injured - including 7 children - after a bomb exploded outside a school in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa area of Peshawar, Pakistan, local media reported Wednesday.

City Police Chief Liaquat Ali Khan confirmed the news, saying the explosion came from a horse cart at around 8 a.m. local time near the Shah Faisal Model School, a private school in a residential area in the Nothia locality, Pakistan's Daily Times reported.

The blast killed a passerby and damaged the school, as well as several neighboring homes. Hospital officials confirmed the number of victims.

Local authorities said the explosion was caused by a remote controlled device. A witness rushed to the scene and stated to have found a dead man drenched in blood as well as a dead horse, which was tied to the cart during the explosion.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and the U.S. embassy in Islamabad condemned the blast, describing it as a dastardly act of terrorists.
