MAKEYEVKA, UKRAINE (BNO NEWS) -- A government building on Thursday was evacuated following a bomb threat in eastern Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported.

A municipal administration facility was targeted by a group of unidentified individuals who demanded $5.6 million or they will detonate explosives at the building located in Makeyevka, in Donetsk region.

The individuals threatened to activate a series of explosions if they do not received the money by 5:00 p.m. local time. As a precaution, authorities ordered the evacuation of the building.

In addition, police task forces were rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. The demand was pinned on one wall of the building. The message indicated that five bombs were placed in five different spots.

Deputy Interior Minister Vasyl Farynnyk informed that the note was found before two explosions took place near a market and a regional state coal mining company. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Authorities are investigating if the two blasts are linked to the note and threats. A third blast was rumored to have occurred in a supermarket but this information was dismissed by Makeyevka Mayor Oleksandr Maltsev.
