Any Way To Cancel Insurance For 3 Or 6 Months If Out Of Thailand?

Featured Replies

Any way to cancel insurance for 3 or 6 months if out of Thailand?

According to Thanachart insurance, one must pay a years insurance in full even though one would use it only 6 or 9 months.

Any insurance company offering this service?

I use AA insurance - by Big C Pattaya Tai

My HD policy cost about 17K, after 3-1/2 months I cancel and have a 10K plus credit. I let them keep it, flip the money each year. So next year I pay 6K and change.

Works for my scooter too.

Great service, good rates. Never had to make a claim - touch wood - so can't comment on this.

Insurance policies can be normally be cancelled and a pro-rata refund given, but there's two points to bring up:

1. If the car is under finance, you would be in breach of contract if you left the car uninsured.

2. A car sitting unattended for weeks on end can become a prime theft target - not worried about that aspect?

1. Not under finance, doesn't apply.

2. Car would be in a safe place. Not risky enough to pay insurance.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll need to ask QBE if they allow this.

According to QBE they will refund premiums if one cancels a policy. I will ask will they refund the remaining days fully or will they deduct something.

They might insure part a year also. I will ask them on that.

PS. Will we get in trouble if we ride a car that has no valid mandatory insurance active?

PPS. Do we need to get that mandatory insurance from the same company we will eventually get the A class insurance, and how much does it cost about?

QBE will not give back the full amount, they will deduct something

'Will we get into trouble etc etc' - answer YES as you are breaking the law.

You can buy the CTPL from anywhere but only sensible to buy from same company as the voluntary - Cost depends on how the vehicle is registered. Examples : saloon 646 Baht, pickup 2 door 968 Baht

CTPL can be bought online HERE

If your safe place has a fire would you be upset if you loose your car and bike? Cars and bikes do get nicked from condos (even with 24hr security); if you have a house, the vehicals can be nicked when no one is at home.

I have also considered cancelling insurance, but its nice to know if anything happens then I don't loose a large chunk of capital. I guess thats why its called insurance?
