Thai Life Insurance

Featured Replies

The wife's aunt is going to die this week. Of course the cousin wants to borrow 15,000 for the funeral party. She promises to pay back when she collects the insurance money.

Any ideas how long?

Do you mean how long before the cousin pays you back or how long before the insurance is paid out. Can be two very different things.

If you are at the funeral every day and every night to look after the gifts coming in and being properly recorded....

that would be alright to help out....

mostly, under these circumstances, the creditors would get his/her money back right after the last day of the funeral, but pls be absolutely certain that you are there in person to remind them of the monetary obligation to you, K? :jap:

But it would be an entirely different story, if you are asked to wait for the insurance money....

Personally, I would opt only for the first option, to get your money back right after the funeral, not a day later....;)

If it were my wife's aunt and the amount was 15,000 baht I would be happy to give it and if it came back that would be fine too.

If not it is not the end of the world.

I am a pensioner but I know that my wife's family will help her if needs be so I in turn can help somebody else.

Your right. I wasn't very specific.

How long from the time she dies to the day the insurance company pays?

Sorry.

Great advice. I hope I don't go every night. Well see.

We already agreed that she would pay me back when the insurance pays out.

Your right option one would have been the best.

Ahhh hindsight...

At this distressing time it may be prudent to ensure the aunt is actually insured.

There have been reports in the Thai media about former insurance employees selling policies and pocketing the money.

It may also be prudent to call the insurance company and see if a policy actually exists, and if it does if it will actually pay out, posters have posted tales of woe on here about companies failing to pay out and only returning premiums paid.

Another factor to consider, is the pay out enough to cover the funeral expenses?

Good advice. The aunt died last night so I guess I will soon find out.

Thanks to all.
