Industrial new orders up by 2.1 percent in euro area - EU says

BRUSSELS (BNO NEWS) -- Industrial new orders index in the euro area rose by 2.1 percent, last November, compared to the previous month, a European Union (EU) report released on Monday said.

According to Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, the index grew by 1.4 percent in the EU27 area last October, while new orders increased by 1.6 percent in November, after a rise of 0.4 percent the previous month.

The report excluded ships, railway and aerospace equipment, for which changes tend to be more volatile,

Furthermore, the report also showed that last November, compared with November 2009, industrial new orders grew by 19.9 percent in the euro area and by 18.9 percent in the EU27. Total industry excluding ships, railway and aerospace equipment rose by 19.6 percent and 19.4 percent respectively.

On a monthly basis, last November's new orders for capital goods rose by 1.8 percent in the euro area and by 2.8 percent in the EU27, with intermediate goods increasing by 1.3 percent in both zones.

However, durable consumer goods fell by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods decreased by 1.5 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively.

Among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in seventeen, fell in four and remained unchanged in Denmark. The highest increases were registered in Hungary (+17.1 percent), Portugal (+9.1 percent), Finland (+7.3 percent) and Germany (+5.3 percent), and the decreases in Latvia (-2.6 percent), the Netherlands (-2.3 percent), Italy (-2.0 percent) and Poland (-1.5 percent).

Eurostat's report also showed that last November, on a year-to-year comparison, new orders for intermediate goods rose by 23.3 percent in the euro area and by 22.8 percent in the EU27. Capital goods increased by 22.0 percent and 20.2 percent respectively.

In addition, durable consumer goods grew by 6.0 percent in the euro area and by 9.3 percent in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 5.3 percent and 3.0 percent, respectively.

Total manufacturing working on orders rose in all Member States for which data are available. The highest increases were registered in Estonia (+59.2 percent), Lithuania (+56.9 percent) and Portugal (+51.4 percent), and the lowest in Denmark (+1.0 percent), Greece (+6.5 percent) and Poland (+8.5 percent).
