Pakistani man kills sister over 'illicit relations'

MULTAN, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A Pakistani man on Monday killed his sister and cousin after she was accused of having illicit relations with a man, local media reported on Tuesday.

The murders took place on Monday in the Qadirpur Rawan area of Multan, a city in the Punjab Province of Pakistan, when a 25-year-old man identified only as Mohsin opened fire on two of his family members.

SAMAA Television said Mohsin opened fire on his sister, identified as Nazia, and his cousin Fayaz Bibi. "He did it on suspicion of illicit relations with a man," the report said.

Fayaz Bibi was pronounced dead at the scene while Nazia was taken in a critical condition to a local hospital, where she passed away on Tuesday. And although the suspected gunman has been identified, SAMAA TV said the killer has not been arrested as of Tuesday.

Honor killings happen frequently in Pakistan and human rights organizations have repeatedly criticized the Pakistani government for failing to prosecute those behind the murders. Some victims have even been prosecuted as adultery is illegal in Pakistan.

Last month, a Pakistani husband was accused of cutting off his young wife's nose and fingers over suspicions that she was cheating on him. A case was registered against the husband, but it is not known if he was arrested.
