BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) -- A car bomb exploded at a funeral in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Thursday, killing at least 48 people and injuring more than 100 others, the Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

"A car crammed with explosives went off on Thursday at a funeral in Rahmaniya region, western Baghdad," a security source told Aswat al-Iraq. "A state of chaos prevailed after the blast, developing into clashes between mourners and police forces."

Officials said the death toll of the deadly attack was at least 48 while 121 others were injured. Some of the injured were in a critical condition which could raise the death toll.

Clashes after the attack between the mourners and police forces resulted in several shots being fired, the news agency reported, but there were no reports of additional casualties. The source said that security forces imposed a curfew in al-Sho'la, a predominantly Shiite area.

At least four other bombings struck Baghdad on Thursday, killing several people.
