Protesters call on Jordanian government to resign

AMMAN (BNO NEWS) -- Hundreds of protesters on Saturday called on Jordanian Prime Minister Samir Rifai and his government to resign at the Prime Ministry headquarters in Amman, Ammon News reported.

Activists, including teachers, military veterans, day laborers and young people, chanted anti-government slogans targeting the Prime Minister, members of his cabinet, and the parliament.

Protesters called for the creation of a special court to deal with corruption and to investigate Rifai on lucrative sales and contracts of national resources and institutions.

Last week, Jordan's Islamic Action Front called for the dismissal of the government after exposing evidence of a rigged Parliamentary election.

Jordanians criticized the parliament for granting the government a record 111 vote-of-confidence out of a total 119 votes last December during mass protests. Thousands of people gathered throughout the country to protest against price hikes, excessive taxation, unemployment, and difficult economic conditions.
