What Bugs Me About The Gulf Coast Disaster

Featured Replies

Here’s a story of a high ranking NO cop who committed suicide. A quick search found several accounts of Sgt. Paul Accardo  taking his own life, after evidently being overcome by despair.  That's not the case. This cop evidently took his life after going home and finding his house ransacked, his wife raped and murdered along with his children.  I reckon the media are afraid George Bush will be blamed, and are protecting him from criticism by not reporting it.  Right? :o

No, I think the media have got it right this time.

It is very unfortunate for this NO policeman, as it is when anyone is robbed or raped in the land of the free.

But you see, Boon Mee, we are intelligent enough to see that this red herring has nothing at all to do with the federal and presidential incompetence that has resulted in thousands of unnecessary deaths.

What was it someone said the other day?

"This is inarguably a failure of leadership from the top of the federal government. Remember when Bill Clinton went out with Monica Lewinsky. That was inarguably a failure of judgment at the top. Democrats had to come out and risk losing credibility if they did not condemn Bill Clinton for his behavior. I believe Republicans are in the same position right now. And I will say this: Hurricane Katrina is George Bush's Monica Lewinsky. The only difference is that tens of thousands of people weren't stranded in Monica Lewinsky's vagina."

Actually, TM, I believe that "some one" was Jon Stuart, on his funny "Daily Show" last monday on Comedy Central..

After a week off, Jon Stewart opened his Daily Show on Comedy Central Tuesday night with a very serious lecture about the federal government's failures in the hurricane disaster. .....He scolded those who claim the "left-wing media is being too hard" on Bush:

"No. Shut up. No. This is inarguably a failure of leadership from the top of the federal government. Remember when Bill Clinton went out with Monica Lewinsky. That was inarguably a failure of judgment at the top. Democrats had to come out and risk losing credibility if they did not condemn Bill Clinton for his behavior. Friends,

There is much to be said and done about the manmade annihilation of New Orleans, caused NOT by a hurricane but by the very specific decisions made by the Bush administration in the past four and a half years.

<snip>

... today I want you to join with me in bypassing the colossally inept and incompetent Bush administration and get help DIRECTLY to the people of the New Orleans area—right now. ... to Camp Casey III in Covington which is a poor African-American town in La.

Sincerely

Michael Moore :D:D:D

Michael Moore :o  :D  :D

Red herring after red herring.

Address the main points.

- Presidential responsibility for lousy preparation

- Presidential responsibility for procrastination

- Presidential responsibility for appointments of the useless FEMA director

- Presidential responsibility for seeking an enquiry with himself in the chair

- The callous indiferance of the President's dumb footsoldiers for anyone unfortunate enough to be suffering as a result of this disaster.

- How standing to attention and saluting the red white and blue only signifies a unified United States of America when the USA goes to war, but has absolutely no significance to neocons should any state or city suffer a terrible tragedy (unless it's California where a lot of white folks live).

Thomas, that is a real quote from www.michaelmoore.com....

If you can deviate from refresh-accessing Thai visa from one nanosecond to look at his website, Moore, a Bush opponent, makes the point on his website that the political points can be scored later - but right now, the people have to be helped.

Anyway, you've made the same point, extremely eloquently, at least 100 times now, as has Spee, as have you all, and I think any reader can appreciate in full the integrity and expression of your opinions and validity of your feelings.

So all of you contributing to the 5 tired threads about Katrina can put a sock in it. Your message has been heard and understood meticulously. Anyone who is not persuaded by now, won't be.

(but continue with the cartoons please!)

Dear Myg (a Danish joke),

As I am unable to help, I am afraid all that is left is the politics of the matter - still beats dogs, slippers and Scampy's retarded development, what?

You and any other of my adversaries will now have free reign within the realms of Thaivisa, from today.

For tomorrow I will be sitting on a Greek Island for two weeks (as I wrote elsewhere) dreaming of winning the Lottery and Everton winning the Championship.

Alas, with my luck I fear I will only win the lottery.

Take care,

TM

Bad Coaching

The city of New Orleans followed "virtually no aspect of its own emergency management plan" during the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina, reports the Washington Times. New Orleans also ignored various federal guidelines, including the one stating that the Superdome was not a safe shelter and the one stating that school buses be used to evacuate residents. So the biggest mistake the federal government made here was probably that it forgot to tell the mayor and the governor to follow the plan. That brings to mind what former Redskin coach Norv Turner's comment after quarterback Gus Frerotte injured himself by head-butting a wall following a touchdown -- "I forgot to coach him not to do that."

The article also confirms that FEMA was in New Orleans as the storm approached working with the Louisiana National Guard, which delivered seven trailers of food and water to the Superdome on August 29 (Monday) and another seven trailers the following day.

Yep...& it was still all Dubya's fault... :o

Moog, I did try to put a sock in it, but it just wouldn't fit , without lubrication...... :o

Ok, to be serious for a moment...

I'm also tired of reading and writing about all the Katrina topics, Pretty much burnt out on it I'm afraid to say. I think all that had to be said has been said for now, with both sides presenting very good evidence for their case. But the ultimate verdict of what really happened may have to wait until the eventual "independent" investigation reveals everything... For now, I really think that instead of everyone bikering and fighting with each other, blaming each side for what happened and not happening, we should all forget Partisian squabblings, and go help the people and the Gulf region recover and rebuild their lives in one form or another. Hopefully to donate to any of the Kartina relief organizations - I have. Twice.

It is so sad.

Do you all remember what today is? What happened four years ago? Unlike most, if not all of you here, I actually saw the towers fall.

But I remember how we as a country came together after that terrible day. For a brief time, there was no difference between Republican or Democrat, Rich or Poor Black or White, New Yorker or Out-of-Stater, just Americans.

I just wish it could have happened again.

Maybe next time.

Yeah, I'm pretty much burnt-out on this Katrina thing too.

Shame, really, those folks who gleen their opinions solely from the left-wing media are living with blinders - afraid to take an Objective look at the facts? :o
