Las Vegas judge's son arrested for Bellagio armed robbery

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (BNO NEWS) -- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police on Thursday arrested a man in relation with the armed robbery of the Bellagio Casino, KLAS-TV 8 News reported.

Anthony Carleo, 29, was arrested and charged with one count of robbery with use of a deadly weapon, burglary with use of a deadly weapon and trafficking in a controlled substance.

Carleo, also known as Anthony Assad, was arrested by undercover agents. The suspect was trying to sell three or four chips in the Bellagio poker room. The chips were identified as the stolen during the December 2010 robbery.

On December 14, a man wearing a motorcycle helmet approached the Bellagio's craps tables and took approximately $1.5 million worth of casino chips. The suspect was filmed by surveillance cameras as he fled the casino.

The armed robbery took place in the early morning hours and lasted less than three minutes. In the video, the suspect appears pulling a gun and demanding the casino chips.

No one was hurt in the robbery and the criminal escaped on a motorcycle that was parked at the north valet. It is believed that the casino chips had serial numbers or other pieces of identification embedded within them.

Metro Police said that no further arrests will be made in the case. The arrested suspect was identified as the son of Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge George Assad.

"I am devastated and heartbroken to see my son arrested under these circumstances, as is the rest of his family," Judge Assad said. "As a prosecutor and a judge, I have always felt people who break the law need to be held accountable."
