Ramkhamhaeng starts online exams

BANGKOK: -- Ramkhamhaeng University has introduced an online exam system that can provide test results within two minutes and the university will expand the system to offer online examinations in 500 study subjects next year, its rector said yesterday.

Some 360 students took the “Knowledge and Virtue” test via the e-testing system yesterday, making Ramkhamhaeng University the first university in Asia to introduce online examinations, said rector Rangsan Saengsuk.

The system enables students to choose the time and date of exam themselves and provides the test results almost instantly. Rangsan said the results are then automatically sent to the registration office to add to the students’ grade reports.

To prevent cheating, the system has a registration database that uses fingerprint recognition to ensure that the test can only be accessed by the examiner, and the tests – which contain different content for each student – are conducted in a room fitted with security cameras.

The online exam is also a closed-system which has no links to the Internet, Rangsan said, adding that within six months the university hopes to make the online examination service available 24 hours a day and offer some e-testing centres upcountry. It currently has e-testing facilities for 400 students.

Isn't that the same university where a certain young student named Shinawatra was caught sitting an exam with some reference material up his sleeve ?

What about SMS exams ? :D

I thought answers by SMS had been a feature for some years? :o

I too would like to practice my exam skills on line and see how far out of date

my knowledge is.

The 14,000 UK pounds I was quoted for a M.Sc in computer science course was a bit steep.
