Hi,

I have visited Thailand many times and seen much of Thailand, but have yet to visit Krabi. From friends and research it appears to offer my type/ style of living. Currently I can stay in Thailand for only 13 weeks duration, that is, 13 weeks in Thailand two times/ year. I have 3 questions.

1.Does anyone know of some volunteer work I could do in Krabi? I am educated and prepared to get the TEFL. All teaching positions require a min 3month contract and the orphanages because the children have already suffered rejection do not want people for a short period of time.

2.My interests are sailing and anything to do with the water. Does anyone know of water depths and what depth of draft for a yacht would be suitable for the area?

3.Are there any marina facilities on the mainland where it would be possible to live on a yacht?

Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge.

The beaches around Krabi, Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, etc. are very shallow and you have to stay well off shore to avoid grounding during low tide. Therefore, you require a dinghy. A marine facility in Krabi is under planning. Currently there are none and if you want to live on board, you have to do it off shore. There are many well protected bays with almost no waves to live.

Maagjk, a quick comment on the volunteer work, (which has been covered in many previous threads in the General and jobs section of ThaiVisa).

By law, you will need a work permit to perform this work. Although the risk of prosecution is probably low if you are found to be working without a WP, it's best that you are aware of this requirement before you take up any volunteer work opportunities
