Any Safe Areas For Children To Ride Bicycles

Featured Replies

I was thinking Nai Harn lagoon would be a good safe place for children to ride, but with so many walkers, joggers, bicyclists and dogs about, I don't think this route would be without mishaps. Are there some safe areas in the South or Phuket Town area that would be safe to let kids ride around without any chance of getting in a major accident with a motorcyclist or a car?

Yeah I was thinking Nai Harn lake also. Maybe Saphan Hin. The problem is Thai's drive their motorbikes pretty much everywhere.

I would think find a friend that lives in any of the gated communities like Cheun Chern .

outside of that u will share the road with dogs, people, cars, motos and whatever wants to be on it going the right way and the wrong way.

Should change the topic to

Any Safe Areas For Children To Ride Bicycles

One thing I miss sooo much about living here is not feeling safe to ride a bike. I tried it a few times and I must say I give a lot of credit to the Burmese I see on bicycles.

My kids ride at Saphan Hin all the time, and have never had any problems, or even come close. I love the atmosphere down there, with the joggers and picnicers. The side to Phuket so many tourists never see.

King's Park might be an option. There arent a lot of motorbikes there. Especially after like 4pm when they close the gates.

The hill in Phuket town with the phone, TV towers on top of it, drive them up to the top and let them ride down.

Very little traffic, monkeys and great views, you may have to check the monkeys out they seemed friendly enough last time we were there

Good place for a picnic there is also a restaurant half way down the hill..

One thing i forgot to mention, we went on a week day, it could be quite busy on a weekend

or public holiday, you will have to check for yourself i am sure the kids will enjoy it.

Some of those monkeys have been known to attack people.

You sure you aren't talking about Bangla?

I sympathize on the bicycle thing. I used to cycle from Karon to Kata and had a blast. The traffic was light, the roads were ok and it was fun. Unfortunately that was the early 90's. :(

And they carry all sorts of diseases. We go up Rang hill quite a lot and I'm always extremely wary of the monkeys. It doesn't help that a few old people hand feed them regularly, creating a false sense of security for people who may not know any better.

I think I'll try the area inside Nai Harn Lagoon that has the swings and slides, then maybe go up the hill to the football pitch that is below Phromtepe Cape. Thanks for the ideas.

Bang Wad Dam, scenic road around dam approx 7 Km long.

Occasional rubber tapper, no monkeys, not at present anyway
