BMA HAS FOUND THE WOOD NECCESSARY FOR PERMANENT RESTORATION OF THE GIANT SWING

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will conduct permanent restoration work on the Giant Swing (เสาชิงช้า) starting early next year, as the required wood has now been found.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Samart Ratchapholsit (สามารถ ราชพลสิทธิ์) revealed that the BMA has been notified by the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department about 2 trees that could be used in the work to permanently restore the Giant Swing. The trees are located in Phrae Province, one being 19.5 meters tall and the other is 26 meters tall. Both are golden teak trees. The National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department will offer the trees to the BMA free of charge.

The BMA has assigned the Forest Industry Organization to take care of processing the trees into readied forms, which will later be sent to the BMA by the end of this year. The restoration work is expected to start early next year, which will take around 6 months to complete.

Mr. Samart said the remaining wooden chips will be made into souvenirs and handed out at the Giant Swing commemoration ceremony, after the completion of the repairs. The BMA also has resolved to establish a Giant Swing Fund, to allow the public to participate in restoration of the swing. Part of the money from the fund will be used to renovate the surrounding areas in Denchai (เด่นชัย) District, Phrae Province, where the wood originated.
