Rimmer
Two Russian tourists injured in assault and robbery PATTAYA: -- Two Russian tourists who were riding a motorbike just past the Dolphin roundabout in the direction of Pattaya Beach Road were the subject of an assault and robbery on Monday evening. The two Russians, one aged 46 the other 51, were just passing the Amari Orchid hotel at about 9:00pm when two Thai men on another motorbike drew alongside. One of the Thai men kicked out at the Russians and caused their bike to crash. The accident saw the 46-year-old break his arm, while the 51-year-old suffered more serious injuries with his skull being fractured just above the right eye. One of the Thai men quickly dismounted and ripped a gold chain from around the neck of one of the Russian men. spidermike007
The police in thailand are going to be forced into doing real police work. It is well known that they do not like to do real police work. Many of us refer to them as the "toy police". But the international outcry from the continued violence, being perpetrated mostly by the youth, is going to have repercussions. There was a foreigner killed in Samui, a few days ago. He was a large Italian man, who had been living here for years. Well liked. He came home, to see a couple of young Thai thugs robbing his place, and he confronted them, like many men would. One of them cut his stomach right open, and he died shortly thereafter. His Thai girlfriend was severely beaten by these thugs, and she ended up in the hospital, but survived. With all of the problems that Thailand is facing, tourists will simply not put up with rising violent crime. The government is going to have to force the "Toy police" to actually work, investigate, and find these thugs, and put them away, for extended sentences. Angelo99
This "crash n grab" stunt has been going on for ages, especially in Jomtien at night since there's no police presence and no CCTV. I know one Thai girl who had two accidents just two months apart from this. The first accident was when some Thai guy tried to grab her bag while riding on the back of a motorbike taxi. The second time some Thai guy kicked the bike and stole her gold bracelet and mobile phone while her and her boyfriend lay on the street unconscious. She had to get quite a few stitches in her head. The Russians are just going to have to learn not to walk around with big, tacky gold chains. Maybe they'll also stop wearing beach gear from the mid 70s, walking around non beach areas with no shirt and/or speedos and sporting bowl cut hair doos as well. Ahh, who am I kidding, that'll never change.

Don't hold your breath! been in and out of Thailand for the past forty years and nothing has changed as far as the police are concerned.if you have the money. they will investigate but "no money, no honey!" But the mugs and their families just keep on coming...so your analysis doesn't hold much water. These Ruskies will just have to learn that Pattaya is not London and wearing expensive jewelery/gold is just not the smart thing to do.
Netfan
These sneaky little thieves are either high or very desperate to get high. In Jomtien a couple of weeks ago saw a pair ride up to a western guy getting on a big Honda. Vest, tats, big, bear like guy. He could have crushed one in each hand. The Thais ripped a chain right off his neck and rode off on their scooter, easily could have hit someone flying down the street. The Thais where I work have always said Thailand is dangerous, it just didn't affect the foreigners. Now it is.

Pattaya really start to be a sensitive destination .. or is it like this for longer time ? Come come don't be so naive. Nearly all the foreign tourist who go to Pattaya go for sex And most are so drunk most of the time they are oblivious to what is going on around them If the Girls ( and boys for the ass bandits ) stay in Pattaya so will the sex tourist . Everyone knows a man only thinks with his p***** So a bit of robbery and mayhem is acceptable to them so long as they get what they came on holiday for

What have you got against Russians - apart from the fact that they seem intent on taking over Pattaya with their mafia crews and are selfish and rude beyond belief (possibly worse tourists than the Germans)!!!! You obviously do not read a lot or you would see it was just a tongue in cheek statement ha ha ha I have been to Pattaya many times and the sex tourists have no idea of Thai culture or what is going on around them Most ask for trouble by wearing vulgar gold chains " medallion man " went out of style last century They carry their money, phone and passport in silly " bum bags " which just shows the Thai thugs there is something to steal Discretion is not in their vocabulary

TacoBoy
9pm, toward the beach from the Dolphin Round About (lots of traffic and eyewitnesses that time of evening). Could there have been a prior or instant confrontation betwen the involved parties ? Thai boys and men are not known to take insults from anyone lightly. If the gold ornament was the object, one should not wear expensive trinklinks out in public in Thailand. Especially while in a vulnorable position while riding a motorcycle or strolling back alley ways. Should wear proper helmets to prevent head injuries. But the helmets provided by the motorbike rentals are not sufficiant. Even Thai's get robbed just about everywhere in Thailand when they go down on motorbikes. This could have been a case of robbery, or an instant confrontation gone bad and the non-injured persons snatch and grab. Not a good idea to always rush to a conclusion based on the limited information provided in the news reporting. A good idea to not provoke or get involved in road rage or confrontations with locals. Not a good idea to wear expensive jewelery or advertise "I have Money". Wear proper protective motorcyle helmets and gear. And remember anyone is vulnerable when down and defenseless. Don't carry large amounts of money or valuables that one is not prepared to lose (just in case always wear clean undies)
