Install Latest Map To A Garmin 215W

Featured Replies

So I’m trying to upgrade the map on my friends 215W. Unfortunately he had the instructions set to Thai so I didn’t understand about disabling his Antivirus program, until later.

I did download the Thai version as that is what he had been told to do.

When I went to run gmapprom.img it said burn so I put a DVD into the CD Rom drive and pressed the button. Then I get ‘the selected disc image is invalid’. That was probably because of the antivirus not been switched off before downloading, I read that later, but I was surprised that I couldn’t just connect his 215W to the computer and not have to make a hard copy on CD.

Having now found FAQ I see that you copy and paste the new file over the old one and then delete the old one only if it is the gmapsupp version.

So do I really have to make a disc? Or am I doing it all wrong?…Any advice appreciated before I download the file again thanks

1. Download the map from the GPSsociety website and save to your computer. The map file should be named gmapprom.img.

2. Connect the 215W to your computer via miniUSB/USB cable. Locate existing map file named gmapprom.img in the Garmin folder on the Garmin nuvi drive..

3. Copy and paste the new map file named gmapprom.img to replace existing map file.

4. No CD involved unless you have requested a CD hard copy from GPSsociety. There are instructions on the CD for changing map files.

YES! You register your GPS with GPSsociety. ESRI maps are locked to a specific GPS unit.
