Baz
I know that I cannot buy a block of land and build a house. I can buy a condo though. Does anybody know if I can buy one of the shops with residence above that are usually built in rows of 10-20 or more. Roller door covered shopfront downstairs and 2 or three floors above. If I can, are there any restrictions or requirements that have to be met. TIA. Baz

No Baz...you cannot have one of them in farang ownership. They are called shophouses. Unless you are super creative, a condo is all they'll let you buy. dr_Pat_Pong
Creativity Baz. Now I know you have a Thai girlfriend, get her to buy that shophouse and lease it to you for fifty years
maerim
I for one would be interested in what you are going to sell if you get a shophouse. I know where there are plenty for sale, in fact I know where there is a whole block of six for sale.So you might get a discount for quantity if you but the lot. My better half has a shop she works all hours and she sells just about everything but same as in the west the big supermarkets are making it not worthwhile. Baz
My GF already rents the shop that I'm (Read SHE) is interested in. It is up for sale and she is scared that she will be evicted after it sold. Its a hair dressing salon. Thanks for you help. Dr, how do I go about making a 50 year lease legally binding? If our relashionship turns sour, what then? can i evict her even if it in her name?
dr_Pat_Pong
The lease has to be in Thai so you'll need a Thai lawyer. A decent one can protect your interest....50 years is the maximum, but you can have a right of re-newal for another 50. Are you that healthy ?
