Officials in Phichit and Ayutthaya win global health awards

Tambon Nern Hua Lor, in Phichit's Wang Sai Phool district, and Talad Kriab in Ayutthaya are the first local administrations in Thailand to be recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for their management and public safety measures.

The Phichit body ranked 288th in a global ranking by the WHO, while the Ayutthaya community was listed as 299th.

The WHO announced it had recognised both Thai bodies at a meeting in Bangkok late last month.

Emergency Decree Lifted in 4 More Southern Districts

The Emergency Decree is lifted in four more southernmost districts today.

Meanwhile, an insurgent bomb attack has severely injured a civilian at a rubber plantation.

Pattani's Sai Buri police have begun investigating a bomb attack at a rubber plantation in Paen subdistrict, where police found debris, bomb shrapnel and a large pool of blood.

The injured victim was identified as 45-year-old Prakong Deebuntham, who sustained critical injuries on his right ankle, and was rushed to Somdet Prayuprat Saiburi Hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities believe the attack was aimed to harm the local Buddhist community.

At the Pattani Special Operations Unit headquarters, Special Operations Task Force Commander Major General Chanchai Phuthong, along with members of other related security agencies, attended a meeting to discuss security operations in the area.

Security personnel then conducted exercises to familiarize themselves with Article 21, which is set to replace the Emergency Decree in Mae Lan district and is in effect starting today.

The emergency decree has also been lifted in four other districts in Songkhla province and the recently-imposed article opens up the chance for insurgents to turn themselves in to police and enter a reform program designed to change their anti-government sentiment.

Meanwhile, at the 4404 Border Police Outpost in Yala's Thanto district, Border Patrol Police Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Prayoon Amarit along with his entourage visited the outpost to boost morale and presented the officers with gifts.

He gave a briefing and instructed all border police to be on high alert in order to ensure the public's safety as there are insurgents continually lurking among civilians looking for a chance to incite violence.
