Helmet Check Maenam

Recommended Posts

I have had to bin 2 helmets (or was it 3?? Can't remember) after spills.

Once the helmet split after I hit the wall and the other was ground down to the kevlar after a track day spill. Yep....I spend up to 400 euro on my lid and lived to tell the tail. Anyone here who thinks a 500-1000-2000 baht helmet will help them is in fairy land. It will probable split, splinter and go right into your brain. Well you couldn't have a brain if you spend 500 baht on a helmet. It has to be fibre glass, Kevlar, Carbon fibre or such to be really effective.

500 baht head....500 baht helmet.

Very nice post. Can you please tell us NO BRAINS where on SAMUI we can buy your high speed specialised hit the tarmac helmets?

Sorry we might not be in the same income bracket as you are, but us lowly people do try & protect our heads if WE choose, the best we can.

Have to bite my tongue here.

You said it all Roo... "no brains". You really don't have much between your ears if you think a thin piece of cheap moulded plastic will protect your nut. Dream on man.....and safe riding.

It is not about income or money....it's all about protecting yourself as best you can.

Once again 500 baht brain ...500 baht helmet.

You just don't get it Roo..do you? It is not about sarcasm...about sniping. Have you seen anyone with their head a piece of hamburger? Have you ever seen the aftermath of a high speed crash with no helmet?? If you ever have you would not be so clever...or try to be.

Helmets...proper safe tested helmets...are all that stand between you and injury, paralysis and death. You can find deals all over the net for recognised brands.

If I were you I would spend my time looking for a real helmet on the net rather than waste my time here doing your best to make out my post is stupid. You are not doing a good job.

Me the great one?? Hey, thanks man.!!

Well honestly, I don not think you have a clue of what you are talking about. This is an island, in a third world country you might say.

99% of people ride bikes up to 100- 125 cc. So what are you talking about? I really don't think you have ever been here , let alone be qualified to pass comment or judgement..

.Just keep riding your bike in you Euro environment with you Euro money. Half the local people here, if not more will find it hard enough to live day to day, let enough buying your helmets, if they try, good enough on them, don't need knockers like you.

Oh excuse me NO sarcasm intended. ;)

Honestly do like people like you, makes me wonder.

Just add the 150% in customs and taxes.

Total cost 40.000 baht.

Six months wages for my wife's little brother. :(

No....if you look you can buy a proper helmet for 100 euro. It may be a Shoei...Bell...Nolan...etc. These are all excellent and you will thank the day you paid this every day after your head smashes into the concrete or tarmac.

The first thing to hit the dirt is your (heavy) head followed by your hands and elbows. This is the reaction of protecting yourself. Then you slide along if you are lucky....tumble if you are not. I have also had pairs of gloves and leathers ground down to nothing after the spills.

I am sure you could find someone coming for a stay to bring a helmet??

Well. well Roo.

I do live there...in Chalong. I am also just back after 2 weeks on Samui. Sorry bout that. Kinda blows a few holes in your point.

The CC of a bike has absolutely nothing at all to do with the damage you can inflict on your head. Nothing. It is speed. Hitting a wall or a car with your head at, say, 80 kph will probably kill you with no helmet. Can your 100-125CC Honda Dream manage 80 clicks an hour. You bet it will and more.

I have wasted enough time here. Ride boll*k naked for all I care. By the way I saw a guy do this on the Isle of Man a few years back. He came off his fireblade onto tarmac. Not a pretty sight....not pretty at all.

personally, I don't think harleyclarkey was having a pop at anyone really. Just pointing out that a piece of plastic shaped like a helmet won't do the same job of protecting anyone as a real helmet. It's fairly obvious really isn't it?

Anyway, I find this particular sub-forum tends to descend into insults fairly quickly so I'll return to my usual habit of not participating here :)

Hope everyone rides as safe as they can :wai:

Thanks Bifff...that was all I was trying to do. Nothing else. A plastic pot on your head is ridiculous and useless. You may as well go to the local 7/11, buy a plastic mixing bowl and tie it on with a cable tie. I've seen too much with bikes and know the value of a helmet from experience.

I shouldn't rise to the bait in future!!

 Obviously you are not familiar with Crusty's inflateable kevlar reinforced helmut which is most popular with Bangkok's pooyings as it can be stored in a personal purse/handbag and inflated by mouth, patent pending.

I'm on for a few shares in the new bizz Crusty!! My inflatable Kevlar dolly on the pillion seems to come off better in a spill!

Don't want to get embroiled in the argument, but I would have thought hitting a wall or a car at 80 kph with your head would break your chuffing neck even with the best helmet in the world?

In Thailand?

Without import taxes and customs fees.

I really like to know.

Have you tried to Import something to Thailand before?

Anyway, my wife's little brother makes 6000 baht per month.

Do you really think that he's going to buy a 100 euro helmet (without customs and taxes)

Your 500 baht helmet = 500 baht head is so colonial.

I would really like to see you donating helmets to poor folks in Thailand.

So this whole thread is purely aimed at foreigners, they are the only ones worth saving with a hundred euro helmet?

Really? wow.So what is the use of your post?

I am fortunate enough to be able to afford several fairly good quality helmets. I wear them, I also respect people who make the effort to try & protect themselves, with whatever means they can afford.

It is all relevant, agree cheap helmets might not be the best solution, but a bit hard, calling all the people basically idiots with no brains, for wearing inferior helmets to what is available overseas. This is what is available here to the masses. not all are able to afford the one hundred Euro state of the art helmet.

You guys seem to have trouble reading. I have not anywhere in my replies insisted people wear any kind or any price of helmet. I have pointed out that a cheap helmet is useless and not worth a fa*t.

I personally don't give a toss what you, or any Thai, or any foreigner wear.

Your comment about supplying helmets is shallow and nonsense.
