Upgrading Gps Receiver With New Software?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently bought a car and they gave me a free GPS receiver. It's a random brand (believe it or not, its called GPS NAVIGATION and has a software maps called VR), I'm finding it really un-user friendly with gps poistioning taking forever. I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade software/maps on a gps receiver? or is it only possible for the same software brand/maps?

sorry for the newbie questions!

thanks for your help.

not familiar with this GPS NAVIGATION and VR map.

the symptom of slow 'positioning' may come from either the CPU performance or the complexity of the map data, or both.

IF it is related to the CPU performance, then reaction time from other operation is also slow, and there is no quick fix. IF it is the software map issue, check if you could load other maps into the device.

Software and maps are specific to your particular brand of GPS. You need to get the updated maps and software, if available, from the manufacturer. As far as performance goes, there are multiple reasons why your GPS could be subpar.

Probably why it was FREE.Go to Pantip or Fortune Plaza and see if you can find someone selling that brand, and ask if they have firmware/Map updates, or a web site for manufacturer. (at Pantip, you may find someone in amongst the small vendor stalls on the third or forth level (don't remember which) at the Phetchaburi Rd side.)Don't like your chances though. It will be a cheap Chinese import with zero after sales support.I think your choices are going to be either put up with the poor performance, or toss it out and buy a decent one.
