Transport Ministry to Deal with Illegal Private Vans

The Transport Ministry has announced plans to address issues surrounding intercity private vans by establishing new rules and regulations, with a focus on ensuring passenger safety.

Transport Minister Sophon Saram said his agency has joined hands with the intercity bus operator Transport Company following the increase in illegal intercity vans over the past few years.

He said, under new regulations, private vans will have to display stickers on the front and the back of the vehicles signifying that they are registered with the ministry.

The rule also addresses issues with speeding, standardized fares, and insurance for commuters.

Sophon said that 3,400 out of 6,000 vans have registered so far, covering 59 destinations within a radius of 300 kilometers around Bangkok.

How is a registering the vans and putting a sticker on the back window 'ensuring passenger safety'?

Nope....... This type of vans are not designed for mass transportation. There are another type which is much bigger and can be used for this purpose called micro bus. It can be seen in BKK. But at the moment ,I don't know if they are still around. Why don't they permit only using this sort of vehicle for transporting people? The vans they are using now are too fragile. The government should stop them by regulating that they will be used only for transporting goods.

Following the increase in illegal inter city vans over the last few YEARS. Who is going to Police these new rules and regulations? You could not make this up.

Register and carry on the same. Or there will now be a lucrative market in the sale of stickers for these vans.

OK. It's in the hand's of the prosecutor then. But it's not the job of the ministry, is it?

This is Thailand with a pool of people to do the work starting off in this world being brought up by their grandmothers who themselves were brought up by their grandmothers. Anybody, even in the western world knows very well that grandparents are poor disciplinarians. From the grandmothers they move on to the 4-year school system which is not equipped to instruct discipline and consistently following rules, regulations and law of the land. Sure, when you look around at the schools you may get the idea that these wards are well behaved, but that is only because it is, behave or else. The moment they are out of sight of their custodians at the school they do whatever they want because grandmother by that time of the day is tired and worn out. How do you expect to get a law obeying pool of workers, impossible?

This brings us to the next item. The Vans.

These Vans are designed and manufactured to transport a driver and a front seat passenger, next seat behind the front seat is designed for 3-passengers (2 on the bench seat and 1 on the folding seat), the bench seat behind the bench seat in front of it is designed for 2-passengers. Total including driver 7-persons. Behind the last bench seat there is some space for hand carry items to be stored - ±60 kilos. Not a half ton as often is the case, which in turn reduces the traction of the front tires for steering the Van.

Still wonder why with a slight bump from the 15-year old girl driver’s car the Van went out of control? No front tires traction for steering control due to OVERLOADING in the rear of the Van and the Van driver jammed up against the driver door and not in front of the steering wheel and the pedals, for proper driver control.

Why not 2-passengers in the front seat? Because the driver must have room to move and not being jammed up against the driver’s door preventing the driver from being able to properly turn the steering wheel, while being jammed up against the driver’s door the driver is not seated in front of the clutch, brake and accelerator pedals to operate them correctly.

Now you want the Police to control the number of passengers in these Vans operated by don’t give a f*** drivers and a police force tired of being baby sitter for lawless Thai and farang people. Try again.
