New service aimed at foreigners who went to wrong airport by mistake

BANGKOK – Thai Airways today announced the launch of service between Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Beginning April 30, passengers can fly six times daily from one side of Bangkok to the other in under an hour.

“Last year alone we had over 10,000 passengers who went to the wrong airport by mistake, only to discover that they were in danger of missing their flight,” said a THAI spokesperson. “Now they can simply fly to the correct one and make an easy connecting flight through the transit lounge.”

By checking into the intra-airport flights, passengers will have their baggage checked all the way through to their final destination, as well as have their place on their connecting flight secured.

Using small, propeller-driven ATR-72 planes, the intra-city flights will take off once every two hours from 6am to 6pm, and make the return trip one hour later. The actual flying time is about four minutes and 30 seconds.

The low-flying planes will also offer passengers exquisite but brief views of Bangkok’s most famous sights.

The introductory fare for a one-way trip is Bt499. However, with taxes and fuel surcharges, the actual price will be Bt7,980.

I do not think I want to put any monies into this airline plan. 10,000 flew into the wrong airport? The are probably really going to be happy when notified that for the small fee of 7980 baht (more than the ticket they purchased to get to the wrong airport) This man should be selling time shares, in Siberia.

Wonder how many Air Miles they will be awarded

This is easy: 500 miles. It has always been the minimum amount per flight, for example Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son...

But it was nice to read about the new service :cheesy:

My 1st thought along with others:- Georges 1st April prank is early this year.

Well it does come from notthenation under the heading satire - Bloody funny article though, bit about the taxes is spot on though - how many time shave you booked a flight and then seen it double in cost under the considerable taxes. No wonder most of the locals can't afford to fly anywhere

Does any one see "LEGAL" scam to make some money???

Firstly it takes an hour to get to Cambodia and this flight takes the same time?

Secondly the price of a ticket is 499 baht, yet with taxes, fuel surcharge etc etc etc its 7980baht?

Taxi would take less then an hour and will cost no more then 300-350 baht(and thats with traffic

In this case its not even double(taxes etc) or triple, in this case its 14 times more

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the old Don Muang only handle the budget airlines?

So passengers coming in or out of Don Muang are generally flying with one of the budget airlines for a reason - budget.

So what rocket scientist thought these people would eventually be able to afford around 7,000 for a transfer to and from Swampy.

Why don't they just run a police escorted bus service through the expressway traffic several times a day - which the bus will carry more passengers than an ATR and

I can think of a few reasons for doing it.

1. Transfer and transit passengers. Thai can conveniently move the flights so people have choice but use the service.

2 Same passengers sold tickets with this incorporated( many many newbies would not know of alternatives.

3.Due to whatever tine to time can "change"airport and passengers will be forced to use it

1 thing I have to question is the 10 flights per day, I can only see some kind of scam being inbuilt or behind it.

It's clear there is a scam behind it ... considering it's all just a joke.

My guess is the fare should be Bt798 with taxes etc.

A typo?

Or perhaps they are using Bangkok Air fare structures

Be better to extend the runway-from swampy (plans are there already) to D muang, and use an old Jumbo-rather than scrap one. it can fast taxi --and wouldn,t need an air worthy certificate. can then have standing room in the aisles--as no fatties will need to be pushing trollies past. But the problem is --no time for a beer. Thai your Ideas are as if not more stupid than mine

This can't be real.

I would like to be a fly on the wall just to see the looks on the Gate Staff faces when passengers walk down to board the plane, and the laughing after it has leaves. :cheesy:

But then again a lot of first timers come to Thailand and have interesting stories to take back home.

Just dig an underground tunnel and then use taxi bikes and Tuk Tuk's to/from Airports?

Yes Typo I am guessing also ฿798 not ฿7980
