If someone tried travelling on this third class train between Bangkok and Pattaya, could you tell me please - what kind of seats are there - wooden or soft ones?

Is it very crowded? How do you think if I buy 2 tickets would I be able to lie down or not?

Lie down? Not a chance. Seats are hard, but not too hard, in 3rd class. If you want comfort, get a bus. The 3rd class train is more an experience, and in order to enjoy the experience, you must be social with your fellow passengers. Showing them all your 2nd ticket whilst fighting for space to lie down would be catastrophic!
