The father of my gf was involved in public infrastructure when he started working, it helped him making connection that was very helpful to him when he later started his own company. He is now retired and when I've time I drive him around meeting old friends, I discovered a face of Isaan that very few foreigners know. A lot of things going on in the country side, a lot of money is made there.

Nike etc are hardly "wannabe entrepreneurs".

Sensible loan sharks take land deeds as security... and the bigger shark will do the same. That means he can't eat your fishes, because you have the security.

Well, where I come from, when the big shark wants what you've got, he bites you until you give it to him.

Loan sharking isn't really a business, it's a racket.
