Report Phuket Fines 17,000 Tourists for Unlicensed Driving
I can believe the number of fines issued. As stated in the OP this is a year to date statistic, not last week or month, and, is for the entire Province of Phuket, not one town such as HH. Nearly 3 million tourist arrivals for the first half of 2025, means it's one of the most densely populated tourist destinations anywhere. There is a large number of Police who's main tactic in traffic enforcement seems to be roadblocks and fine collection. As stated above, they are also targeting renters. Pity there's no statistics or punishments given for these.. Hopefully most of the transgressors caught are Russian -

The slow moving coup in the USA
He's right, the US is the country with the highest incarceration rate per capita, and is really high on the list of countries with the highest crime rates. Society has to change, more incarcerations is not the answer. -

Burn the Flag
President Trump, doing the big things!! A year in prison for burning a bit of cloth. MAGA!! And that rambling nonsense, he is losing it: "They don't know why they do it, when you ask them say 'I don't know, I was given money to do this'". "I think our nation now is the most respected nation anywhere in the world by far." "You see that in Europe and NATO where they respect your president, they call me the President of Europe". And then the sycophants around him, "Thank you sir for keeping D.C. safe". Have some dignity, please. It is hilarious to watch, but also a little sad. -

Bangkok Bank - No yellow book, no new account
I have accounts with BBL, KrungSri and KBank. KBank is way ahead of the others, great banking app and ( in my branch at least) helpful, well trained staff. -

Ugandans question accepting US deportees
Ugandan officials have released few details about the agreement although they have stated that they prefer to take deportees of African origin and do not want people with criminal records. However, the country is being pushed as a deportation location for high-profile detainee Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man and an El Salvador native charged with human smuggling. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/8/26/the-whole-scheme-stinks-ugandans-question-deal-to-take-us-deportees
