For some people its easy to get into the UK, but for some its hard. However I have been monitoring someone who maybe working here in the UK illigally but would like to have your opinon and also want to know if what I am about to explain could be true.

I have a friend or was a friend who she lived in BKK, she is now here in the UK, England living in london. She had a letter wrote for her on behalf of her company in BKK and her friend in London to support her VISA. Her dad already lives here in England. She has been granted access to the UK with a VISA lasting until March 2006. She has recently asked her former employer in BKK to support the extension of this VISA. I have confirmation from emails she is working with her dad. Why would a Thai person require documentation from a former employer in BKK for support of the VISA when she has the support of her dad? Another question is how would she get a work permit in the first place? I believe she is here studying but this is not clarified yet. She is trying to stay here for good and I find it very strange. Also she has borred money from her former employer of which she is now paying back over £2,500 and I believe this was used to hoax the VISA support. Anyway this is just on my mind and wanted a few explanations if anyone can help of how its possible to do such a thing if its legal....

If she has a student visa she is entitled to work a limited amount of hours. How else can students pay for their studies.

If she's working for daddy, in a company or if she's out there selling pussy, that doesn't matter either, she permitted to work.

.....and good luck to the girl if her visa extension application is supported by a company in Thailand. That shows initiative on her part.

She is probably a hard working girl who is trying to make the most of her life. I'm sure that she doesn't need busy bodies looking into her private affairs.

I agree with MM. This case sounds totally normal to me. Student visa supported by employer; can work 20 hours term time, 40 hours during holidays. What's the OP's beef? Spurned lover or just busy body. At least she's studying and supporting herself, not like the millions of scroungers in the UK :o

Why do you care what she is doing would be my first question? :o

And Mine.

Why not spy on the real problem immigrants instead, like the Afghans, Iragis, Pakistanis, Chechens, Albanians, Sri-Lankans, etc who come in in the back of a truck or on a fishing boat and leech onto the benefits system.

As far as I can decipher the situation from the info. given- I say leave her alone. She wants to study great! She wants to work & study, amazing! UK needs more like that. Better than just trying to screw the benefit system which gets passed on to the taxpayer. The fact that she borrowed money and is paying it back shows she is really seriously trying to make a go of things. Good for her.

All good points people and i don't know if there is an underlying reason for the OP to be interested. However, the OP is just asking a question and we have to think about other things. If she is a student and allowed to work legally, great, his question is answered. However, if not, then she is working illegally and it is this type of "illegal workforce" that get abused by unscrupulous bosses getting "Slave" labour and also stop other people from being able to work, even at the minimum wage level. You have also got to think about what happens in Thailand. They don't let us work there without a permit, so why should we allow them to work here without one? Just food for thought.

Also, call me a snitch if you like, i'm not bothered but if I knew someone claiming benefit whilst working, i would certainly grass them up. Would you? I hope so :o What's the difference?

I wasn't reffering to this girl in that passage. I was comparing, as to, would you snitch on on someone working and claiming benefit? To, working without a work permit? Both illegal, what is the difference, was my point :o

Seems quite legal to me Andy.

She could be a student on sponsorship from a foreign company (Thai) or a worker from a Thai office of a European company on a work permit (or even a business permit if she's only training or attending meetings and not 'working').

Did you want to know in order to find out if it was a valid entry route for another Thai friend? Or were you considering grassing her up. The reason I'm asking, because if its the former, then you need much more info from her than we can guess at. If the latter, then most likely the goverment would not give a crap. I know of large companies that hire people on business visas as if they were work permits (which they are not) and other companies that hire foreign nationals in paper only for them to come to the UK and contract (IT). I know these have been reported, because I knmow someone who reported both the above - nothing was ever investigated and he was not even contacted for details.

I'd report someone working and claiming benefit but I'm not quite so sure about someone working without a work permit.

I think your time would be better spent monitoring the inside of a copy of the Oxford English dictionary.

I'm sure his private detective tendencies would guide him to KSR soon enough, although i personally think he would be better as an apprentice for Stick's BG investigations?

edit: even my spelling has gone to 8ollox now! it must be catching :D
