Police deployment before election only a precuationary measure

BANGKOK, 27 March 2011 (NNT)-Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thuagsuban said police troops were expected to be deployed before the election to maintain law and order, adding that it was not any indication that violence would occur.

According to Mr. Suthep, police have been instructed to keep their eyes on certain individuals and illegal weaponry. He reassured the public that the deployment was in accordance with the preventive measure.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suthep said he welcomed the decision of Police Captain Purachai Piemsomboon to contest in the next election, adding that whether the Democrats would have a chance to come back entirely depended on voters.
