Veera and Ratree letting a legal team handle their case

By NUPPOL SUVANSOMBUT

BANGKOK, 27 March 2011 (NNT)-The Thai Patriots Network (TPN) has insisted that the two Thais remaining behind bars in the Cambodian prison: Mr. Veera Somkwamkid and Mrs. Ratree Pipattanapaiboon have already filed for a royal pardon and withdrawn their appeal to the Cambodian Court at their families’ request.

TPN leader Chaiwat Sinsuwong said following the visit to Cambodian by Mr. Karun Sai-ngam, and Mom Laung Wanwipha Jarunroj, both legal advisors to the TPN, that Mrs. Ratree has signed a petition appointing Mr. Karun her legal representative in the case against a trespassing accusation in Cambodia.

As for Mr. Veera, the TPN legal team is preparing documents for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give to Mr. Veera to sign to allow Mr. Karun to defend him in the Cambodian Court. However, there had been no further progress on the matter even after the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh became aware of the process.

Do not expect too much favorable action from the Thai Embassy in Cambodia.

It is quite obvious to many already that the officials there are under direct order from Thailand

to stay hand off .... until further notice.

My heart went out for you two.

You went to prove a point for the good of Thailand.

But Thai govt baited you and left you hanging on the wind.

Students in history dept and many others know that where you were captured,

that land used to belong to Thailand since 1904 or so....

But then recently some power that be, have had already donated those parcels of Thai sovereignty to Cambodian HuSen,

without first telling you or consulting with you.

In my heart, I know that both of you are innocent and should not be put where you are at the moment. There are many avenues that your gov't could have taken to extradite you, but those in power refuses to act on your behalf.

You are not wrong nor guilty as charged, but you are suffering immensely.

However those who are guilty and wronged you remain to roam freely.

Where is justice? That is the question thousand of us are asking, in your behalf and for ourselves. B)

It might be a good idea to double the dose of your medication. These two agent provocateurs admitted that they were on Cambodian territory. I am content that their hiso image cuts no ice with Cambo. One law for all - difficult for a Thai to understand.

Are we to assume that Veera's health has dramatically improved? Not so long ago he was a death's door.

It is pointless trying to wise up some people whose mind is already made up about some social and personal issues in general.

It is apparent that you really know very little about the Thai territorial dating back to 1904, nor does it appear that you are aware of the dire situation around the border between Thai and Cambodian in the year around 1975 or so.

Were you born then?

If you wish to know more to educate yourself so as not to appear so helplessly hopeless, you could google, indeed.

For your information, I was there in 1978 at those disputed parcels of land. I was there to help out the Cambodian refugees fleeing their war torn country swamping into Thailand by ten thousands. By the time UNESCO and International Red Cross secured the permission from Thai govt to dig and built the reservoir on Thai territorial for the benefit of the Cambodian refugees, the number quickly multiplied to hundred thousands.

I and those International Red Cross volunteers at that camp site could testify to the very fact that those parcels of land belong to Thailand sovereignty.

Therefore VeeRa and Ratee and other 5 Thai were unlawfully captured on Thai territorial.

Going back to 1975 or so, we were the eye witness to those events unfolding right in front of our very eyes, witnessing the flood of Cambodian refugees fleeing into Thai sovereignty, camping on Thai soil, eating Thai rice, bathing and washing and ultimately bearing and giving birth to their children delivered by Thai Red Cross volunteers.... Thai govt allows them to remain there until present time.

And may I ask, what do you have to quote as your fact and figure that those parcels of land belong to Cambodian? The UNESCO and International Red Cross also would be very interested in your historical supportive evidences, if any; that those parcels belonged to the then fleeing Cambodian refugees.

I for one and many others would also like you to recite your supporting historical evidence, if you have any, please?

On the other hand, I would not blame you at all on this count.

Because one of Thailand's own minister lady, just last week boldly declared in her interview that the demonstrators have no ground whatever; those parcels of land where the former refugees occupied belonged to Cambodians since 1975--that is why Thailand has no business to interfere with Cambodians there, much less trying to gobble up their sovereignty.

Well, see.... at least there is a prominent high ranking Thai govt official that is in your camp already, without having to google or anything.

Cheers. ;)

Veera and Co's extreme arrogance (and ignorance) allowed them both to garner the rule of law. Now they are back pedaling. So turn it in to a request for Royal Pardon? "Statesmen" (sic) like these two deserve a long stint - out of sight out of mind. Leave them their for the Cambodians to gloat over for a few years and maybe then they will learn some respect. No-one is above the law!
