I'm going to be heading down to MBK during the week and want to purchase a new PS3 - does anybody know how much they are selling for now? with 2 controllers and a decently sized hard drive? i saw second hand consoles going for around 10,000 but last time i checked they cost around 17,000 brand new (this was a while ago i admit)

Any help is greatly appreciated

thank you

I know Carrefour has them for 15,000 brand new with nice sized HD's and one controller. If you get any one new, untampered with, it's going to be a 160 or 80GB HD and one controller.

Got to Sapahn Lek in Chinatown and you can get one much cheaper than that - 9000 baht or so.

Things to consider:

1. Buy one with the smallest hard drive you can find and replace it with any 500GB 2.5" SATA Notebook hard drive. Directions for doing this are in the Sony PS3 manual!

-You'll have to load the PS3 firmware from a DVD when the console starts up with the new drive. It's easy - Google it.

2. Research the games you buy. I bought my PS3 from a guy that had only a bunch of really, really crap games and he was down on his console because of it. Sports games suck! Get God of War 1-3 and Uncharted 2.

-The console is expensive, the games are expensive and is best for it's exclusive titles, like the aforementioned God of War series and Uncharted 2. If you want a pile of sucky games, pick up an XBOX360 as well for which the games cost 80 baht. I own both.

3. There is an option for playing games from an external hard drive, but this will only work temporarily until Sony requires a firmware update. I buy my games second hand in Sapan Lek and they're not that much - it means I stick the really good titles. It increases resale value of the console to have the real games and I like having a bitchin' collection of elite PS3 only titles.

4. Metal Gear Solid 4 sucks balls. 10 out of 10 my smelly ass!

5. Don't you dare even think of connecting it to a normal television! The PS3 needs at least a 720p screen to look like it's supposed to you might as well get a Wii or something.

6. Take care of your discs. Blu-rays smudge easy and are difficult to clean. If they're in good condition they're much easier to trade.

Happy gaming...
