Thai Language/asian Studies Degree

I have time on my hands to study a degree course in Thai language, Asian Studies or similar. This qualification would purely be for my own 'satisfaction'. I previously received a BSc and MSc in the UK some years ago, so feel that I am 'capable' of following another degree course :o

But I tend to move around Thailand, between BKK, Phuket and Samui. Hence, on-campus attendance seems impossible!

I've been trying to find online/distance-learning degree courses which would allow me to study at my own pace, but lead to a formal qualification.

There do not seem to be many courses available! I have found an Asian Studies degree with the American Military University. Leeds University in the UK also seems to offer an MA in Aspan Studies.

But does anyone know of other similar degree/post-grad 'formal' courses that are based on distance-learning? Courses concerneed with South-East Asian Studies, Thai language and/or culture, or other regional languages such as Lao, Burmese, Vietnamese, Khmere etc.

Maybe it would be useful to compile a list of such courses and make this available on ThaiVisa?

Anyway, if anyone knows of similar courses, please let me know!

Thanks - Simon

Yes, SOAS has many interesting courses, but only a few that can be undertaken by distance learning, and those post-grad courses are more concerned with law and finance.

The books that are starred are highly recommended. In Search of Southeast Asia edited by Steinberg will be regarded as a text. Students should use this book to supplement lectures. The books on this list are important basic works. You should also consult the holdings in the library for further readings when writing your papers or preparing for exams.
