They had a facebook page, you might search there. There was a notice on the site a while back that indicated the site had been hacked. FYI, it isn't only Thai teachers who whip children, Filipinos and Indians are also allowed to use canes and corporal punishment on Thai kids in some schools. The idea of allowing people come into your country and whip your children has always been sometihng I've not been able to grasp. The Thai's doing it sort of fits the cultures way of allowing prostitution, drunk driving, and corruption.

I think if a Thai said what you are saying it would be acceptable, however since you are clearly an alien "falang" I can not take seriously what you say and I suggest you show some more respect for your host country rather than making statements which may cause a Thai to lose face.

Something obvious to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, hardly causes Thai's to lose face. It's their country as you imply, and I'm a guest as you remind us. However, that doesn't make it "okay" to the rest of the world. Testing foreigners is another example of a closed society unable to grasp or perhaps not caring, who it insults. We love living here and enjoy our interaction with Thai people. Next time you are in a Family Mart waiting your turn in a line and Thai student forces his way in front of you I hope you keep your cool and don't push him to the back of the line. Maybe he's late to class.

My only point was despite corporal punishment being illegal, it continues in many schools.

Hmm, seems to me your point was that it is ok for a Thai teacher to hit a student but not a foreign teacher, hence my sarcastic post (which I guess went over your head).

It is not ok for a teacher to hit a student no matter what nationality they are full stop. I hope you realize that.

Not over my head. I wasn't sure if you were serious is all. It's not only "not ok" but I teach my students to say no and ask for their parents and protection. They can also come to me and I'll intervene. Face be damned when it comes to child abuse. Whomever it was running that site was willing to send the Royal Thai Police to schools. But it didn't last long, same same as the busts of the houses of prostitution aka "GoGo" bars in Pattaya and Bangkok.

Agreed.

Sad you have to deal with that at your school. Maybe you should consider working at an international school.

Child abuse?? I thought the thread was about corporal punishment?? Quite a distinct difference there.. Mind not condoning either where school officials are concerned but there is quite a distinct difference between the two so best not to cloud the real issue with PC melodrama..

No difference to the victim. No difference to me...

child abuse

–noun mistreatment of a child by a parent or guardian, including neglect, beating, and sexual molestation.

Let me make it completely clear. It is considered child abuse by many. You, a teacher, Thai, Indian, Filipino, or British, do not have permission to cane my child. If you touch her I come after you physically. Teachers are not on earth to punish children for being "bad".

Geee there Bruce did I distinguish between "school official" and the term "abuse" or didn't I?

Define the word beating for me?

And then apply varying degrees of such.

For example, He beat the other fighter into submission and broke his jaw..

His father had to spank his child but some people mistakenly saw it as a beating..

No, you didn't distinguish, but we refer to an adult abusing a child. Call it what you wish, it remains having control over a child then physical punishment.

The boxers are both adults in our example and choose to take the risk of injury. Bad anology. There is no control over the other fighter.

A father never has to spank his child. When you can say that, as you did above, it means of course you condone physical punishment of a child. My friends never spank their children.

Surely I did, read again, I clearly stated that I don't condone the use of corporal punishment by school officials...

Adults should have "control" over children there is far too much of the latter these days which is why they are unruly disrespectful and out of control..

Yes where parents are concerned I certainly do condone spanking, not "beating" mind you but spanking as do most governments and legal agencies draw the distinction. The example above was yes to give you the relation between beating and spanking and still you seem to have missed the point quite possibly because it's easier for you to avoid that way..

Neither you nor any other parent has the right to impose your out of control, undisciplined children on the rest of the public...

Your position is clear. Thanks for showing us what is out there, I assume teaching here in Thailand. Don't dare come near my daughter as I said. It changes things when the victim can fight back.

You remind me of Michael Vick for some reason. He eletrocuted dogs who lost fights in front of the other dogs to teach the remaining dogs not to lose. The idea being that violence teaches. Same with those who condone corporal punishment and spanking children of their own.....

It's really not worth arguing this topic. Corporal punishment is against the law in Thailand and if you think for a moment that most parents are going to tolerate a foreign teacher manhandling a Thai child, you are sadly mistaken.

In the past several years, I have had to discharge foreign teachers for physical actions taken against children. I have also had to move teachers to other placements when it appeared they had done nothing wrong but the stain of abuse hung over them.

What you believe you should be able to do, is your own business, but what you do in a school setting becomes other people's business.

The OP, me, only requested info on that site or another one like it. The topic of corporal punishment has been discussed, on another thread, ad-nauseum.

My concern, is, that there may not be another site like it. Was he shut down, persecuted, threatened, what?

Thank you,

Wow!! Apparently not Bruce as you very selectively quoted me there, you just can't get over the fact that people are allowed to raise their children their own way huh?? My quote isn't related to TEACHING get it!!!

Lots of personally insulting insinuations and generalizations there Bruce, sounds more like you're the one with the anger issues.. Me thinks you doth protest too much...

Since your personal and inflammatory post is allowed to stand given a mods post follows directly thereafter, I guess I can respond in kind by saying in the kindest way possible to please keep your unruly, rude and inconsiderate children from imposing on me in public or we'll have words..........At least initially..

It isn't lost on anyone that you also claim to be so much against physical violence and then yet threaten to kick the crap out of anyone who touches your daughter like that...What a hypocrite...

OK, and with that, I will close the thread. If someone knows about the website the OP is requesting information on, please feel free to send me a PM and I will post it.
