Importing Staffordshire Terrier Into Thailand

Featured Replies

I have been living and working in Thailand for a year, and due to a new job offer I'm going to be here for at least another 3 years. We (my family and I) had decided to leave our Staffordshire Terrier in Australia with family because we were expecting to be back after a year and a half, but now that we're going to be here longer we want to bring her over with us.

From what we can work out, Staffordshire Terriers are banned for importation, and it sounds like we'll even have trouble getting her out of Australia because the airlines are aware of this. However Staffordshire Terriers are bred and sold in Thailand, so I'm wondering if there is an import permit of some sort that you can get to bring her in. I've read all of the stories about people not even getting checked or paying fines when they come through quarantine, but as I said we can't even get her out of Australia unless we've got proof she's allowed here.

Does anyone have any more information on what is and isn't allowed? We really miss having her as part of our family, but don't want to risk putting her through a lot of stress if we're not going to be able to get her into the country.

Thanks.

try searching among the forum here as many have asked the same question. on the other hand, u may, in three years time, not be able to bring her in the reverse direction, back to australia as they have strict quarantine restrictions, coming from thailand, which is not a rabies-free zone, but rather a high rabies zone... as i always say, get a hold of the kennel club of the breed of your dog, as there, will be people knowlegeable about import/export of their breed, and perhaps can help u... u can check in the pinned dog show thread for shows that have been in thailadn to see about judges/breeders listed that maybe u can locate them..

Dont know much about bringing your dog into Thailand, you may have to check with quarantine in australia.

However I wanted to take my german sheppard back to Australia and was told it may be possible.

1. You have to have the paperwork cleared with an OK from Australia.

2. The dog is returned via Singapore and has to remain there in Singapore for 6 months minimum.

3. Then after all the blood tests prove to be negative you have the dog transported to Australia.

4. When it arrives in Australia it remains in Quarantine for a minimum of 3 months and goes through further blood tests.

After I found out what 2 Air Flights would cost, 9 months of Quarantine would cost, all the inoculations and blood test costs in both countries, not to mention the food and vet fees costs would be.

I GAVE IT A MISS. Could have bought a new car.

Hope this Helps you make up your mind.

"O" I sold the Sheppard back to the Kennel I bought him from. He cost me B30,000 I got back B25,000. We were sad to see him go, but finished up happy $ wise and he went to a good home.

Thanks - we're more aware of what it takes to get her home as we lived in China previously for a short time and considered taking her with us. Greatly appreciated.

Is there any reason why you can't declare the dog as a mixed breed?
