April 2, 201114 yr If i buy one of the newer garmins (got an older one that frustrates the hell out of my gf and me because it can't find a single road). Would it be possible to have both Thai and English on it. Would it be better as the old Garmin or just as crappy at finding spots.
April 2, 201114 yr The Garmin 3770 has a dual language map included, you can switch between the Thai and English version. Can't say that it is any better at searching for locations and you still need to know how to spell, exactly as stored in the database, what you are looking for.

It is as if the database is not full at all.

It is as if the database is not full at all. I wouldn't say that it's still not good, only that you need a fair idea of where you're going or the exact spelling of your destination. The 3770 does have a new search feature that sort of anticipates listings in the database.

I have the old 203 and it just does not list the roads good. The girlfriend got fairly frustrated with it. She knows how to write the streets but it still did not help her much.

Can't say that it is any better at searching for locations and you still need to know how to spell, exactly as stored in the database, what you are looking for. I've had a Garmin Nuvi for 2 or 3 years and you can get a Thai map for it no problem. They are regularly updated and come from Bulgaria, of all places. Garmin ceased to provide a Thailand only map directly some time ago. You can have the map display and the keyboard in English too with the audio in Thai. Now the biggest problem is that Thailand has a habit of spelling the same places in different ways, hence it's often difficult to find where you want to go in the database. That is not just down to the translation from Thai to English as the Thais do not always spell things the same way in their own language. Getting a Thai to check some names on a Thai language map will soon confirm that! However, once you have located the vicinity where the target address is then resorting to Google world can be a great help as the maps do have most roads on them. Once you've got there it's worthwhile storing the location as one day you may need to visit the same locality. You can buy Garmin sat/navs from their supplier in BKK with a map of Thailand but that's the expensive way to go, north of 10,000 baht when I looked. An even more expensive solution is to bring one with you and then buy the map from them for which they will charge you nearly as much about 7,000 or more I think!! I bought my Nuvi from Amazon UK and then the map on the web from an official supplier in Bulgaria for about £30 or so. Hope that helps. Have fun.

The latest ESRI Thailand Street Map costs 2,000 baht from a dealer in Thailand or 450 baht for an out-of-warranty map update from the GPSsociety website. You have always been able to purchase a Thailand map directly from Garmin, the name and vendor has changed overs the years but a map including Thailand is available - priced at 99.00 USD the last time I checked. The Thailand only map is now sold by ESRI. The Bulgarian maps are pirated.

April 29, 201114 yr You can have dual language on most of the Nuvi unit if not all. You just need to change one of the Map’s ID before you put it in.
April 29, 201114 yr Can you add the dual language map if you bought the Garmin an another country? I will buy one Canada, but I want to install dual language Thai maps. The dual language Thailand Street Map (TSM) only works on a Thai OS unit such as the 3770 or other compatible devices.

Does your UK purchased Garmin zumo have a Thai keyboard, text, voice, and speak the Thai language? You are of course ignoring the issue of pirated maps.
May 4, 201114 yr You can have dual language on most of the Nuvi unit if not all. You just need to change one of the Map’s ID before you put it in. My memory is fading. It is the draw priority that need to be changed. you can use gmaptool to do that. The screen shot is from nuvi 1360.

Only problem is where to get one, it took me one whole day to get one in BKK. I am selling this gps now as I will go abroad. Anyone interessed send me a pm...
