Anyone notice what time of year it is? Yes it's the prelude to Songkran, but that's not what I'm alluding to.

It's Reds rioting time of year. Yes, that's right, for the past two years in a row, the Reds have commandeered the headlines with rioting in Pattaya and Bangkok (2009) and then last year, when they took over downtown Bkk.

So, I'm happy to point out that, for the first time since 2008, the Reds are not doing their annual rioting in Bangkok.

Yea!

Is this an improvement in Thai democracy or what?

HEY. BE QUIET.

They've got a protest organised for Sunday. Don't jinx it.

Yes exactly so.

Jatuporn is 'warning of even bigger rallies to come.'

I don't have the same foreboding as last year, but still,

best not to test the fates....

Yeppers, this has been a scary time of the year for the past few years and I am holding out hope that this year will not be a repeat of the past, but the potential is still there!

Although Adolf Hitler had the support of certain sections of the German population he never gained an elected majority. The best the National Socialist German Workers Party(NSDAP) could do in a election was 37.3 per cent of the vote they gained in July 1932. When Hitler became chancellor in January 1933, the Nazis only had a third of the seats in the Reichstag.....

....Although it was extremely difficult for the opposition parties to campaign properly, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party still failed to win an overall victory in the election on 5th March, 1933. The NSDAP received 43.9% of the vote and only 288 seats out of the available 647. The increase in the Nazi vote had mainly come from the Catholic rural areas who feared the possibility of an atheistic Communist government.

Political momentum cannot be switched on and off like a tap. However, once the elction gets underway watch out for reds crying foul if the polls are not going well.

Then Thaksin might push the button. Remember his motto: 'If I can't have it then nobody else can either'. That is a major driving force. If he cannot win by election then he will use force to make the other side come to an accommodation with him, which he will then use as a wedge to force the gates open even further. This has been his strategy all along, the difference being that the establishment have no more illusions about his true intentions. Now that the reds were forced out of 'controlling' the streets last year, it is not so easy to reset the controls. Both sides know this.

  • 1 month later...

How many times did this monkey announce that he quit politics already?

"I will revive Thailand within six months. After the first three months, the headache will be gone. The following three months, people will have money to spend, lots of money in everybody's pocket..." he said.

Hope he'll come back to serve his time///:jap:

As Prime Minister??

I can see your point as his term was disrupted by the military coup. I suppose he could finish his term in office. smile.gif

His term as caretaker PM? Or the term he resigned from?
