Thaivisa forum does not allow extensive commercial solicitation, and the teaching subforum in particular only allows limited amounts of hiring-related messages; however, since it's that time of year I'll allow it with a few caveats:

1. All hiring-related messages must be posted on this thread, whose title has been changed to avoid favoritism.

2. No email addresses, phone numbers, or other public contact information (you may choose to add those to your profile, however)- contact should be done by PM.

3. Heckling stupidity or discrimination is allowed.

With the previous post in mind, I will start with the following:

No school/agency/job which posts age limitations for teachers of 45 years old or younger, in their prime earning years, and whose starting salaries for such teachers are under 50K in Bangkok for someone who's already gone through the onerous teacher's license process- is worth serious consideration. Definitely AYOR.

Guys - Most teachers have access to some funds from abroad so don't starve on THB35,000 per month.

If anyone wants to work 15-18 hours a week, get FOC accomodation to include electric / aircon, have a salary of THB 35,000 rising to THB38,000 in year 2 + insurance cover THEN PM me ASAP.

I know a school about 20 kms outside Roi-Et that wants 3 x EP English & 1 x EP Science teachers. Jobs are from 1st May 2011 and I know the School Director personally. Any age but native speaker. BA / BSc or even a TEFL / CELTA will do the job.

These are real jobs and not debates on the forum.

Regards - John.

Saying that career foreign teachers here should already have their own money abroad in order to be able to afford to teach is one of the worst excuses I've ever heard for offering substandard wages- anyone trying to employ career teachers on that basis deserves whatever trouble they get (though their students don't).

It's basically the way that many schools have escaped market forces- by hiring older/retiree foreigners who *do* have some of their own money already and just want better visa options. Nothing wrong with that- it can often work because a lot of those retirees are very talented- but once again, it's not the right deal for career teachers in their prime earning years.

My experience has been that the very vast majority of the foreign teachers do not have income from outside the country and as a result they live on the edge. A few months of unemployment, a motorcycle accident, a boss who doesn't pay and they have major problems, and no way to get home. These are the extreme cases, but I don't know anyone who has left the country with any substantial amount of money.

You may be right.

My wife is a teacher so we have two salaries + private teaching. Circumstances are different from person to person. Let's hope that no finds difficult times ahead!

I agree with you. Depressing wages because of supply & demand or age discrimation is not right. My post was aimed at saying that on THB 35,000 they should not struggle. THB 35,000 goes a long way in places like Issan. In BKK or CM that rate would be much higher. For older guys, with a little bit of foreign income it might be just right. For younger career guys with much to give and much to save, (dont reply on the farang governments going forward) is not OK and I agree that career teachers should earn more.

Teachers come here for a whole variety of reasons. Some what travel, some foreign experience and some, (like me) just want to be with there wife. I left a Group Company Directors job to come here. I didn't come for the money. I came for love, (yes i know that's sad) but that's why I am here. At my school teachers earn between THB 35,000 - 43,000 plus they get fed extra money for English camps, foreign trips and get passed private work from the dept. head.

Young career guys should head for the big international schools where the money and work is better. !'m happy at my state school and no I won't get rich here but perhaps i will be rich in life style. It all about choices and just to conclude I would never condone depression of wages by poor school directors.

Just my views - don't want a protracted debate on this.

Please forgive my typo's. As an old guy my keyboard skills are not the best. Just two fingers and lots of spelling errors via typing so no posts please.

Age or sex will not be an issue with these jobs. Neither will colour or nationality if the accent is plain to understand. The school wants good teachers who have "stickability" and will not back pack off after 6 months and break contract.

Thanks for the advert in English. It's very tiring reading those like the OP and attempting to figure out if discrimination or ignorance or just a lack of understanding the language.

John, thanks for sharing - there is so much more to life than living and working in Bangkok.

there are those who flatly say the salary will be insufficient. A lot depends on how you spend it.

i pay 2xx Baht per month for the Skype World flatrate which lets me call Thai mobile phones and many countries.

In my former job, I would see what tenants leave behind. Unpaid cell phone bills with 4-figure amounts? You bet!

Need an I-Phone? And I-Pad and an Apple Air laptop?

Many just work to afford their new car. Go out, try a semi-automatic Honda Wave or an automatic scooter (not good in hilly regions).

Need books? Try www.betterworldbooks.com they ship to Thailand without a surcharge.

Try local food stalls, and you will be okay money wise. But if my wife would need to take a taxi 2 x 30 km each working day and pay the toll way fees, half her salary would be gone. Back in the UK, I would prefer smaller cities to London, despite lower wages. Walk to work? Be showered and changed while others are still fighting the traffic?

If you have budgeting problems, write down how you spend it and then check the results. Too many pizzas? Draft beer @ 140 Baht at some posh restaurant or grab a bottle at the supermarket? Every little helps ;)

Surely a "career teacher" would not be looking to Thailand for their prime earning years.............

I know a few teachers who cannot survive here, they have debts, drink a lot, and have no valid visa, but still have work at large language centres at the weekends, they live from one pay packet to the next, pay their debts (or some of them), then build up the debt again ready to pay the following month. Some are even picking up work for next term, so there are jobs out there for anyone, and am sorry to say it but the wages are decreasing and some places are now only offering around 30,000 for work in Bangkok.

I keep an eye on my travel expenses, which range from around 4000 to 7500baht which is quite good, this includes petrol and Expressway Easy Pass. The last 2 months have been low but it might increase again when I start my main job.

Thailand is one of the most competitive places to get into for 'career teachers'.

There are some 'true blue' internationals that pay 120-150 k a month. Throw in the free accommodation and utilities etc and they have a great lifestyle with savings in the bank too.
