Hi everyone,

Me and my Thai spouse are planning our wedding this year. We are interested in having it in the south of Thailand, area Nakhon Si Thammarat/Krabi/Trang/Phuket. We are from the south ourselves and plan to have a wedding Thai style, Thai food, Thai ceremony, with the visits of my western relatives as well. We have been looking for a good hotel/resort/beach to have our wedding however either

1. the resort or hotel is not suitable enough for wedding (no wedding decorations to use, not enough room for all guests, no "wedding-packages" or "food-per-table" charts.

2. Uncooperative owners, unfriendly

3. Willing but inexperienced, never had any wedding at their hotel/resort before. Rather important when it comes to a wedding or atleast have an owner who will know what to do when it comes to arranging big amounts of food, fixing electricity and speakersystem etc, some one to trust.

Me and my spouse like the wedding in the calm but delicate way. Not over the top. No big alcohol, loud music or heavy partying. We want it calm and close. We like to fix and arrange most things ourselves. My work is in multimedia and I have friends helping me out with photography, video, design for the boards etc. so that is no problem. However wedding decorations (like the arc) is something we really would like the hotel/resort/place to have. We estimate between 40 and 150 people, most likely the latter.

We are open for beach wedding, hotel, resort or anything else and rather flexible in this. It all depends on how the place is really. We don't like masses of people, a lot of noise, dirty rooms, expensive prices or troublesome personell.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a place where it would be nice to have a wedding like this?

Some shared experience would be great to know about. It could be a resort, beach or other venue.

Those of you who own such place, feel free to selfpromote :)

Find the place, find an hotel nearby where your guests can stay then hire a caterer.

You don't have to subcontract the wedding arrangements to the hotel, especially if they are not willing or organized to do it. I'm sure in Bangkok you can find a caterer or a wedding planner who can organize everything for you.

There should be a number of hotels in those areas that can arrange things for you

Perhaps to help narrow the suggestions - where is the wifes family / friends from? Where would majority of people be coming from? (excluding those from overseas)

Those that are local should not need hotel rooms if u plan it in their hometown. Will reduce cost and also easier booking with hotel.

Other thing to consider is - it's not necessary to put guests in the same hotel as wedding venue. If u find a great venue but they don't have enough rooms, use a nearby hotel for rooms and negotiate with them to arrange transport for your guests

Ps I suggest if cost is not an issue it is better to let the hotel do the food and sound system. They will usually have a couple of florist they can recommend to do extra decor (hotel should give some minimal decor. If u want more or better they ask u to hire the florist at additional cost )

Hope this helps

Sorry, can't agree with you here.

A while ago a friend of us was complaining that the band recommended by the hotel that organizes his wedding was total crap. We were in a bar with a band playing and he said he wishes he could have this band for his wedding. My gf asked him how much the hotel charges him for the band then during a break went to talk to the band. She came back a few minutes later and told our friend the band can play for his wedding, and for half the price the hotel charges them. Done deal.

If you deal with a five stars hotel or resort, and you don't have much time, they may have the right people to organize your wedding. But you have to keep in mind it's just business for them so they may go for the cheapest option. You don't get married every day so maybe it's worth shopping around.

I didn't say band did I

Food - use the hotel

Lighting - use the hotel

Decor -mostly hotel (if need a great job with flowers try to get external but hotel may have couple of numbers u can call)

Band - find your own

Photographer / video - find your own

Make up and hair - find your own

:)

By the way there's a wedding forum. But mostly in Thai. Your wife should google it. They talk about all sorts of things a bride would wanna know to prepare for the wedding day including contacts for bands and other supplies, wedding gowns, rental etc etc
