Family of Thai Transwoman Thief Blames Mental Illness, Pledges Compensation

The situation gained momentum on social media as residents shared their experiences and frustrations, particularly regarding the perceived lack of action from local authorities. Kevin, the first reported victim, highlighted his ordeal through a Facebook post detailing how he had ordered goods worth nearly 5,000 baht, which vanished despite confirmed delivery to his building. With the help of CCTV footage, Kevin discovered that the transwoman took his parcel and unsuccessfully sought resolution through the building management, eventually involving police assistance. A tense confrontation ensued, captured on video, where the accused angrily denied any wrongdoing and threatened legal action against Kevin for trespassing. Under pressure, she ultimately returned Kevin’s package, tossing it to the floor before retreating into her apartment, leaving Kevin with only the option of filing a formal police report. A second victim, who runs a camera rental business, shared further evidence of the thefts on TikTok. Her returned camera disappeared after the transwoman was seen swiftly inspecting and removing parcels in the CCTV footage. Attempts to retrieve the stolen items led to more anger from the suspect and partial resolution when one missing parcel reappeared – only to go missing again shortly after. The victim, frustrated with the police’s apparent lack of urgency, never recovered her equipment, and the suspect soon vacated the condominium, leaving residents in lurch. With mounting dissatisfaction, residents turned to social media to share both videos and grievances about the handling of their cases by Makkasan Police Station. In an interview with ThaiRath, the suspect’s family addressed the situation, citing mental illness as a key factor in her behaviour. They committed to seeking proper treatment for her and assured that they would make restitution to those impacted by her actions. This incident underscores ongoing challenges in how authorities handle such cases and raises discussions about mental health and responsibility.
